Did I flood my engine?
Damn it was cold this morning...
I tried to start my car but it wouldn't fire. The engine was cranking but wouldn't quite fire, it got close a couple times but didn't. I stepped on the petal a little bit to give it gas, but then I realized that that wasn't such a good idea so I stopped after 2 or 3 pumps. I tried to start it up again and it sounded like the rotors were just spinning with no spark. Maybe the battery? And if it's flooded where is the plug to drain the fuel from the rotor housing? help a brotha out |

you sound like what just hannened to my vert. i bought new sparks, pulled the EGI (should be the closet one to the engine) fuse, cranked it over for about 20 sec, with the the pedal pushed in. then i replaced the fuse and plugs and started it with a lil crankin. |
I pulled the EGI and cranked it with the gas pedal to the floor for about 20 seconds, but nothing happened. Now it's cranking slower than before and I'm afraid if I keep it up it'll stop completely.
Any other suggestions? |
we pulled the spark plugs out and then cranked it with the pedal to the floor. with the sparks out and the engine being cranked it shot a "cloud" gas out of the holes where the plugs were.this emptied my engine of the flooding feul. cuz when the pedal is down the fuel pump doesnt put gas into the engine and thus allowing just the gas thats sittin in the engine to escape...i did it with my room mate so he could tell me when there was no more cloud of gas. we then put it all back together and it too a few cranks WITHOUT touching the gas pedal for it to start. and when it does start it will smoke out the ass. mine was white smoke.

Icemark says to spray Automatic Transmission Fluid into the bottom spark plug holes......what for? And it shouldn't matter if it's a manual transmission should it?

is there a certain sized socket that I need to take the plugs out? My friend and I are trying to use the standard 5/8 but it's not reaching all the way

Get a sparkplug socket form autozone. Take out the leading plugs(the ones on the bottom) and see if they are wet. If they are wet clean them with brake cleaner and allow to dry. Pull the egi fuse and hook up jumper cables to the battery and another running car. Put the pedal to the floor and crank it for about 30sec. Put a table spoon of motor oil in each spark plug hole and reinstall plugs. Put the egi fuse in. Crank it. If it doesn't start try it again. Still doesn't start get a compression tester.

2 winters ago I had the same problem but changing sparkplugs solve it. It happend when my Rx-7 was too long in garage... weak battery and starter didn`t make enough rpm to start engine. I took out sparkplugs and they were wet. You can try my solution. Ask your friend to help you. Connect two cars with rope. Push the clutch pedal, when your friend will pull your car turn the key to see all lamps lighted and take a 2nd gear... let go pedal.... higher rpm made cause that your engine will start (cause of higher rpm than starter can make) and burn all fuel which made sparkplugs wet. After that I also change the battery and that`s it.

Well I got it running again...
I tried pulling the EGI fuse and depressing the clutch and gas pedal for 30 seconds, then plugged it back in and started cranking. It was draining the battery so I couldn't quite get the rpms I needed to make it crank. I hook up some cables to my friends' Avelanche and tried the process again and sure enough it worked :) I'm glad it wasn't something else like the starter. I just bought an RB catback so I'm broke, I'd hate to have to cancel the order for a stupid starter or alternater. |
