Did I damage my FC by doing this?

Last night dropped the GF/ex-GF off at home. I got out of the car and left it running with the heater on to say goodnight.. hey it's cold outside and I didn't want turn off and have to restart the car right away.

Anyway so we start to fight and before I know it my car has been idling for about 45 min maybe more... Time flies when you are yelling at each other.. I'm suprised nobody called the cops... the advantage of living in the ghetto I guess...

So I open the door to turn off the car and I smell a burning smell.. smells sweet like maybe burnt coolant. I park it and then this morning when I get in the car I smell it again, start the car and the smell is coming out of the heater. I just drove home, about 13 miles freeway, and the smell is starting to go away.

Why the hell did the coolant burn? Did I damage anything? Do I need to replace the coolant now?.. just did that two months ago.

I don't think you pop'd a coolant seal if thats what your asking....Is the level low? If it is the stat maybe cobbled and or it may have bubbled over the resivour....Or maybe the coolant line on the TB is leaking a bit They do that from time to time.....Check that stuff.....But really if you pop'd a seal you would know it...and you don't have to change it out again

No, the level is fine and when I shut off the car the temp gauge was less than half way up so I don't think I overheated and the engine ran fine this morning.

Sorry for my ignorance the coolant line on the TB?

Sweet TII BTW :-)

You wont hurt anything letting your car idle for 45 minutes, it will be fine. Maybe something is going on with your heater core?? A friend of mines heater core died and thats what happened, he smelled coolant. It turned out the core was leaking a small amount.

are your windows fogging up funny or anything? often the heater core will do that too. also, do you smell coolant strongly when you have the vent/fresh air turned on?

i agree with the overflow. the core temp on the radiator will go WAY up idling, but the overall coolant temp wont vary much. its just letting vapors and excess fluid escape. no worries

yeah but you should still be smaked for letting a sports car sit idling in the driveway for 45 minutes IN THE GHETTO (by your own words!) Cause if it got stolen, i would have given you NO sympathy. Plus, imagine how bored your poor car was

bored car=

car going fast =

She lives in the Sacramento Bario.. the Mexican neighborhood. They are all hella cool to us and don't try to sell dope to the gringos on the corner.

It's the wanna be gangstas a few blocks up that bug me.

ANYWAY

I was standing by my car the entire time and time just flew by. It's fine.. no smell anymore.. there is no coolant smell or any coolant in my car. Next time I will be more careful.

It's all good now.. I'm not trippin... even got a line on a new girl.. Blonde.. 5'11.. smart and more beautiful than anyone I have ever dated before (sigh) hehe

My car will be really happy with her in it.. but you know sometimes I miss the backseat of the Olds I had in HS..

Oh and I LOVE them tall.. I'm not a small guy so all you short folk from out East who don't know about the 6ft blondes that populate Cali just step off ;-)
