Did anyone run on mis-match tires?

I was wondering does anyone here running on mis-match tires? I want to know does it going to make the car handle better or weaker or what? I have a extra set of wheels that I can put khumo on the front and falken on the back and the sizes are 205/50/15 front and 225/50/15 rear. Any concern will be great for answering the question I posed.

thanks. :git:

uh, its called stagared. i suppose that the 225's are both rears, and the 205's are fronts, youll be fine. im running 215's all around, although i wish i could have gotton 225's all around. personally, i feel the handling differences between what i used to have on there, which is the same as the fronts that you are running, and the 215/45/17's that i have on there now.
225 on a 15 is gunna feel wierd, maybe not handle that well due to odd aspect ratio (soft sidewall), but i could be wrong, which is common with me. so, no, youll be fine.

peace

I think he is talking about running on different brands of tires for the front and the rears...I've been told that it is possible for there to be some issues, but I'm currently driving on mis-matched tires at the moment and don't notice anything.

Are you talking different tread patterns, different widths or both? There are literally hundreds of possibilities when setting up tyres and wheels. Diameters, profile, width ect.

I am running 225 front and 245 rear with a strut brace up front only this is what works for me. I do think it is all personal preference and driving style as to what will work for you so it is hard to answer your question

Are you looking to focus on drag, grip, drift or a bit of all?

unicorn_squad 04-15-07 02:32 AM

what kind of driving are you going to be doing with this?

if street driving, just make sure the speed rating is the same.... or similar... but its probably not going to make a difference anyway.

for grip driving? don't... unless you know what you're doing.

for drift? go for it.

for drag? I don't know anything about that...

you'll be fine what you really need to worry about is that the hieght is the same if the hieght is the same and the rim size is the same you should be just fine but id agree with putting the 225 in the rear

magus2222 04-15-07 05:18 AM

uh, wow, you ALL said the same damned thing.................."blah blah blah, no idea"
fcforlife says the only useful thing, check for 1) clearence issues 2)ride height of each tire/rim and 3)similar aspect ratio.
i guarentee you the size of the 225's are gunna be bigger as far as width and height go.
225 mm x .50 = 112.5 mm while the 205mm x .50= 102.5 mm. so the height is gunna be different.
i ran on directional tires going the WRONG way, 3 different brands of tires, and all rims kinda banged up from previos owner. YOULL BE FINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

there, i hope this thread can end now.

peace

oh, and i commute 70+ miles a day with my fc, this is what the gas company is doing to me currently :ky:

Currently I have 225/45/17

THis one time at band camp I autocrossed with street tires in the rear and race tires up front. Man that was a fun day.

I would strongly suggest against it. I know from personal experience that running different brand tires (same size) caused serious problems. Now, I can't say for sure that it will on your car, but on my FD it was very dangerous. Everytime I would accelerate, and then let off the gas, the car would pull severely to the right. The FD is quite a bit faster and has more torque than my other sevens, but it was scary. I searched and posted, and came across other guys who had the same problem. I bought a full set of Avon's and the problem is gone.
Proceed at your own risk.
YMMV.
