Demonspeed splitter...transaction results and product review

Well, partially out of desire for a front lip and partially for an experiment based on curiosity I ordered this air splitter form Demonspeed despite their poor reputation.

The transaction went just as I asked for it to, and Douglas responded to all of my concerns immediately adn it was a very smooth deal. IT arrived today and I got it installed in about 45 minutes. My only complaint is there are a few scratches on the black finish, apparently from teh too-small packaging that was used, but its nothing major, and it matches the scratches on the rest of the car :D

See my sig for the best pic, but here are a few:

I cannot speak of others' experiences/complaints, but I must say I had a very positive experience dealing with Douglas in this transaction. You guys should *consider* giving him a chance to make up for his errors in the past.

you are the first person I've seen ever *get* one. and I know lots sent him money... with no replys. how the hell did you get yours??

benhart21 06-28-02 12:07 AM

Always good to here about people coming through like that.

Looks clean, but if I put one on mine, I'd snap it within 10 minutes on one of the damn potholes or driveways around here. The stock sport body pieces already scrape as it is, and it's still at the stock ride height.

BoostedRotors 06-28-02 12:07 AM

You know? at first I didnt like those wheels, but the more I see them, the more they grow on me. looks sweet by the way.

demonracer 06-28-02 12:07 AM

Thanks Kevin and it really looks great! BTW, any surface scratches generally come out with a bucket of water and some 1000 grit sand paper.
We experimented with the packaging. Boxed the way yours was it just meets the Specs. for USPS Priority Mail. We thought that it might get handled a bit better going Priority Mail rather than Parcel Post. We will keep experimenting though. Thanks again and nice doing business with you.

Well, I was sitting here one night, thinking, hel why cant I find a smal lip for a s5 front end. The only alternative I liked was a $450 FEED front lip not available readily, and the GT-C front for $1000. There had to be a alternative. I remembered teh Demonspeed lip, and had that page bookmarked.

For the hell of it, I emailed them, out of curiosity. I got a reply within 12 hours. So, they were still seriously trying to do business. Lets play ball. I outlined my desire to have a splitter, and my unwillingness to take unnecessary risks, so I asked for a COD transaction, and Douglas replied stating that was fine, plus he made good on an earlier disagreement between ourselves. HE told me he'd ship it within 1.5 weeks, and sure enough, a few days ago I got an email stating it had been shipped.

So, today it arrived and I installed it. Fit very well, went on pretty quickly. From what I understand, he is now attempting to settle old scores and wipe the slate clean. I might not be totally correct though, so we'll see.

Yea did any of the other people waiting on theirs get what they ordered? I would consider doing business with someone with that type of reputaion as long as he made right all the previous dissatisfied customers.

boostmotorsport 06-28-02 12:15 AM

I like the looks of that a ot. Very clean, and aggressive, yet not gaudy. Which ,IMO, is hard to do. How much was it? If under 200$ Id consider it a very good deal!

hypntyz7 06-28-02 12:17 AM

Well I got mine a hair cheaper but it should be right at $200 with teh COD fee.

RexRyder 06-28-02 12:23 AM

that car is pretty tite, what kinda rims r those?

demonracer 06-28-02 12:27 AM

Thanks again Kevin and yes we are trying to square up with everyone and are indeed making progress.

Scott 89t2 06-28-02 12:30 AM

ya I just talked to the guy who ordered 2 here local and he just got his money back. sounds like he's turning it around even though it's been a long time.

7 Dreams 06-28-02 12:34 AM

Is it just me or did he dial in extra camber on the rear?

hypntyz7 06-28-02 12:35 AM

Its good to see that too, Ive made a few mistakes myself and I always try to do my best to resolve them. I'm sure if you maintain a presence, fulfill your obligations(past and present) you'l be conducting business again in no time.

hypntyz7 06-28-02 12:36 AM

Oh, the car's suspension is completely stock except for 3/4" of lowering.

fastrotaries 06-28-02 12:59 AM

What material is that made of?

hypntyz7 06-28-02 01:02 AM

fiberglass.

Turbo Timmy 06-28-02 05:41 AM

How did you mount it? Did you use the large washers like Douglas recommended? Mine is still not installed as it has rained here every day for the past 3 weeks :(

hypntyz7 06-28-02 12:35 PM

I used the stock 8mm screws with washers that hold the small rubber trim on. I took those off, and laid them over top of the splitter, lined them up, and drilled the appropriate stock position holes. Then I used those same screws that held the plastic on, to hold the splitter on. In the beginning though, I had to use 4 really big screws form my personal spare screw collection to support the weight of the splitter. ONce those were tightened down, I was able to use all the small, stock screws, then i took out the big ones and put the stock ones back in.

Nick86 06-28-02 02:39 PM

Anyone have any pis of one installed on an S4 - besides the pics on their website? Everytime I see one it's on an S5, even though they say that they make them for S4's as well.
Nick

Nothing really to add except I am gonna jump on the bandwagon and say that, Kevin your TII is one of my personal favorites here on the forum. It fuckin owns!!!!!

rxspd 06-28-02 02:46 PM

Damn Kevin, that is one badass ride, does that npr ic work well? I heard those things are kinda big for the 7. That lip completes the car, leave it be. hehe
Do you have s5 tailights on it yet?

BLUE TII 06-29-02 01:13 AM

It may be a good idea to use drill the holes out slightly large (and w/ a dull bit or sand/grind holes after drilling to reduce fractures at the holes) so there is no screw to fiberglass contact and use those large rubber backed washers hardware stores sell or at least large fender washers.

I believe even quality fiberglass is known for cracking w/ vibration and moderate flex if stress risers are present.

Maybe I'm paranoid...

Looks great though. I hope Demonspeed is able to make many more satisfied customers in the future!
