DELAYED white smoke on startup -- not right away -- and a query for Hailers

OK, here's a challenging question (I hope) for the great minds of this forum.

My '87 NA, 90k, starts just fine and does NOT smoke. But when I'm driving down the street, it will sometimes put out some white smoke until it warms up. Then it stops smoking.

So I don't think it's necessarily the proverbial coolant leak through bad oil seals that shows up quite often on this site, because a) the mileage is so low (certified on CarFax, no less) and b) because it doesn't do it on startup, only after I've started driving.

Any ideas?

(BTW, I was formerly experiencing flooding problems, so I had the injectors cleaned at RC Engineering and replaced all my vacuum hoses while I was at it.)

And Hailers, re your online manual posting, if a whore gives it away, then what's the difference between a whore and a slut? (just curious).

Thanks all.

not an expert here but I have seen my 89 n/a do the delayed white smoking at startup just as you described. My car also has many symptoms of worn oil control rings... high rpm shift smoking etc. I'm not losing an any coolant either, just burning oil. Have you tried that 4k rpm test that RETed posted for checking to see if your oil control seals are ok? In nuetral, rev up to 4k and hold if for 15-20 seconds... if it smokes it's the oil seals leaking. A way to rule that out anyway.

Slut does it with more than one person at a time!

That -could- be the cold start assist system... Might as well remove it if you still have it on your car anyway.

I think they all do. It doesnt smoke immediately after it starts up. After you drive for 3 min and you get to a stop light. It will start smoking like a whore. Mine had been smoking for 80K miles, still running, so until it breaks, who gives a damn
