I have a stock manifold so wrapping it tightly enough to keep the heat in will be difficult.

i thought about just sending the stock manifold and turbo hotside out to be coated.........i used DEI exhaust wrap on my 2.5in SS DP before and i noticed back firing and yes..i also think the turbo spools up faster.....now i have the 3inch mild steel DP and didnt want to risk cracking the damn thing....

its pretty hard to burn up that tape. We use it all the time on turbine instrument tubes for electric power plants. They run hotter than our exhausts.
Its made out of ceramic fiber. Which is made from silica

WildRX 04-11-05 01:36 PM

Is there a market for turbo blankets? We build removable covers for just about anything. They can be made of any thickness of ceramic fiber with a silicone impregnated cloth jacket and secured with drawstrings.

"if u make it ....they will come"

Do you have any generic ones made up right now? Throw up some pix if you can. :bigthumb:

at the current price of about 200-300 bux for a good blanket I think there would be a market for a "cheaper" high quality turbo blanket.

patman 04-11-05 02:33 PM

^^ i agree.

make a low priced turbo blanket, or just sell the material in like 2'*2' sheets, i'd buy one.

also, just to throw in another word, i have my DP wrapped with DEI, it is MUCH cooler, and i did notice slightly quicker spool.

^^ i agree.

if the blankets were available for a lower price, i'd buy one. hell i'd even buy a 2'*2' sheet of the right material.

As far as the wrap, I wrapped my DP with DEI, and i like it. its cooler under the hood, and I think it spools a bit faster.

No I dont have any made up we normally make these for high temperature valves in powerhouses. I would think I could make these for 100 to 150 though. I would have to find somebody local to mesure up the turbo, since I drive an N/A.

i have done this to my 2 cars already
on my latest I ahve my Dp wrapped , a turbo blanket, and my manafold wrapped. After a hard drive everything in the engine bay was cool i could touch whatever and it would be cool. With my cold air my manafolds would be pretty cold. I would reccomend this. It totally makes the exhaust sound way better. Less tinny and more of a solid sound.

Definately

They would look something like this only smaller.

patman 04-11-05 05:51 PM

you'll have to lower that price quite a bit if you want to be competitive...

torean 04-11-05 05:57 PM

yup..i was gonna say something about that too.....a kit from summit costs about 60....even if u go with the v6/v8 application it would only run about 95ish.....and i've heard its got enough materal to do 2-3 cars worth

patman 04-11-05 06:13 PM

I personally would be more interested in just a 2' * 2' sheet of the material for a low price. i can cut it to shape myself.

Look again. It appears all the kits that summit has available are custom jobs that need to be cut to fit. Here is a install guide provided.

I'll be getting one of these kits soon and I'll post back how it goes.

uRizen 04-14-05 02:19 PM

Thanks for the information, I'll have to check that out.

patman 04-14-05 06:27 PM

yeah but they all come with extra shit that i dont need. all i want is just a piece of heat resistant material. actually, tho, i think i may just make some nice aluminum shields.
