Dash lights up when brakes applied

Like the subject says, when I step on the brakes, under any conditions, the dash/heater/radio lights come on. I'm no electrician and have very poor but usable skills when it comes to reading wiring diagrams and schematics so I need help here.

what did you change recently to make this happen (rear tail lights or bulbs probably???)

DriftingB26RX7 05-22-05 09:15 PM

yess you have a short in your system just like icemark said...have u changed anything recently ??

13Beast REW 05-22-05 09:36 PM

the tail light harness on both sides.

Icemark 05-22-05 09:40 PM

you either put in the wrong harness or wrong bulbs. Put it back to what it was before

13Beast REW 05-22-05 09:44 PM

Can't other harness was really just the connector. All the bulb holders were cut off before I ever got the car. The lights all work as they should. I'll replace the bulbs, but assuming thats not the problem, how can I redo the one I have to be compliant with what it should have been?

Icemark 05-22-05 09:49 PM

No, if it is the bulbs, it is because the wrong bulbs are in there (for example a 1156 in place of a 1157).

See you should have said all this in your first post. for example: I replaced the plugs and now my dash lights light up when I use the brakes.

Somehow, (either because the wrong bulbs - or because of your wiring of the plugs) you have both the brake lights and the tail lights wired together. If you turn on your parking lights, the brake lights are probably coming on as well.

Appologies for leaving out information. For whatever reason, I didn't at the time recognize that as being relevant. The brake and tail lights being wired together makes alot of sense to me. I think I know how I can troubleshoot this issue once I'm working on the car now. I never would have thought of the fact that the tail lights and dash lights are on the same circuit on my own. It makes sense that current from the brake light circuit would carry over into the parking light circuit from the actual bulb wiring if incorrect. Thank you.

hmm...
everytime i press on the breaks i get a light that says " stop " on my dash...whats this one about? =)

Me, I get the door light on my dash. Tomorrow, I'm checking all my fuses to see if any are bblown. Correct me if I'm wrong on this, but from what i heard, if one fuse is blown, it affects all the other fuses, thus, affecting all the elctronics in my car. If I replace that blown fuse, then all the other fuses will work again....correct? Does it make sense atleast?

means that one of the bulbs is blown or i think is getting less voltage then the others but i know it means that there's something wrong with one of the lights =)
