Is This Dangerous?
Ok so around the end of the month I will be having my Vert swapped to TII by Kevin Landers in Tennessee. I want to eventually go with a FMIC and a larger turbo and keep the stock hood. But first things first the full TII swap. Now I will NOT be putting a TII hood on the car because it will be changed to FMIC later. Is it dangerous to not have a fresh supply of cold air over the TMIC? I will be driving the car 610 miles back home like this and driving it to work every day 20 miles each way for about a month. Could my 8-10 hour 610 mile trip home have disasterous consequences? I will of course be keeping the engine below 4k rpm and staying off boost for the break in.

It's going to heat soak pretty quickly and stay soaked, because the hood will trap all the heat right on that intercooler. Without boost you should be fine and it shouldn't have too much troubles, but it's hard to say for certain, also the intercooler will hit the hood, and with the engine torquing and banging against it, don't expect that hood to stay in very good condition.

I wouldnt recommend that at all. And thats cool what you are doing, I also just bought a vert, and I am going to put my turbo motor and drivetrain in it.
I do think Chicago is pretty cool, as for air temperature, but heat rises and I would think it would be trapped under the hood. |
You should probably goto ebay get a 150.00 FMIC and mount it and ask Kevin if can make some pipes or if someone local to him can.

Or you may be wanna raise the good up with hood adaptor from http://www.aerodyne.net/RX7.htm
This can be a cheap solution I dont know how well it will work but its gonna help. |
Buy or borrow a TII hood and swap back when you get your FMIC. Otherwise disconnect the actuator and tie the wastegate open. No engine needs an intake air heater and that's all the top mount is going to do for you with no air flow.

drive with no hood

Or - just run with a temporary bypass pipe & no IC.
With the WG wired open like Josh suggested - no worries. That will limit boost while you do the break in period. http://208.62.166.66:82/guest/pics/9...pe/IC pipe.JPG |
Yes, it will hit the hood, the rubber stuff on a TII is there so that it seals and the air actually is forced to travel through the intercooler, rather than just blow around everywhere else. Also, I REALLY don't suggest using those hood brackets.
