damn door handle
 

ok i'm about ready to give up on this door handle...i will forever have to unlock my driver side door via the passenger door...soaking in all of the embarrasement :( .

ok seriously though i have tried and tried...for over a year now...to get this damn door handle OFF! i finally found the damn second screw everyone is talking about ( by removing the cap btw...which i somehow completely over looked the first 100 attempts ) and now it turns out that the second screw is impossible to take out...i have to remove the damn window or something to get it out. there is absolutely ZERO room in there for any wrench..much less a hand or a few fingers. there is some plastic and metal assembly that is blocking the way of the wrench...and if i tried to do it via the plastic cap hole that i missed until now then the glass would be in my way. Is the only way to do this by removing the window or am i just that dumb?

You have to roll the window up to get one of them out, and roll it down to get the other out. That got me at first too.

hmmm...here are a few pics of the piece i can't seem to take apart. It's the orange piece that's holding that metal arm ..it wont let me pull the handle out cause it's attached to it...the last one is of my seats..just wanted to show them off :D

TehMonkay has it right. I just used a 1/4th socket wrench with a 10mm socket and extension on it. It kind of sits at an angle but will still grab onto the bolt and you can get it out.

For the bottom nut, I used a 10mm closed-end wrench. As for the orange clip, it is designed to rotate counter-clockwise (notice a tab-like lip on the left side of the clip). Rotate it out of the way and the shaft will easily pull out of the clip. I replaced my driver-side door handle about 6 months ago. I tried to fix the broken part of the original with JB Weld, but it kept breaking in the same location (not enough surface area to make a good weld point). Now I have to get it re-keyed. Good luck.

Yea, i've heard troubles of removing the handles. I'm in the middle of removing mine. The door opens from inside but doesnt click from the outside. I already took a peak, and it seems like one of the springs is just about done (its met its age). Im not sure how im going to pull this off. But I'll post pictures on this thread (I'm not a fan of double/triple threads).

Peel back the covering on the right side of your door. See the handle? Ok, now do what was said above about removing the bolts.

There's 2 clips also. One you slide clockwise or counter-clockwise (should be obvious as there's an opening in one of the directions), and one you pull out of place (also obvious).

This should take you about 10 minutes to do the whole operation.

In regards to the clip that holds the vertical rod that goes down to the latch assembly...you can use a flat head screwdriver to rotate the clip. Do this from the top opening where the window comes out of (obviously, have the window fully rolled down). It may give you some room to have the outside weatherstrip out (the straight one that tends to loose its paint and rust).

How do you rotate the clip (for the vertical rod)? The rod holds it where it is and cannot be rotated. I unclipped the little door part that looks like the rod could pop out, but i'm afraid it might break the plastic clip.

edit: are you talking about the orange clip? I"m having trouble with the white one that is further up...

i did mine last month and those clips you either push down or up... it rotates to lock on... and to get one of those scews you pull a plastic piece off and it will give you a direct entry when you put the window down to access it

yeah, i got it. i was worried that pulling out the rod would break the plastic clip, but it didn't, getting the door handle out was a pain, mine has an alarm so the wires going to the door handle get kinda in the way. it went in a lot easier than it came out, that's for sure.

cool so everything worked out... now are you switching the door handle but keeping the same lock? be careful and make sure to remember where everything goes... good luck

yep i had the same damn issue. i went to get in to my car and boom the door handle broke!!!!!!:mad: i drove around for two weeks untill i found a handle off a junk car. but just like 13b_cookie_monster said make sure you put every thing back if you are going to keep the original lock. oh and get some graphite lube and do up the lock it self. lithium grease will work for the other moving parts.:bigthumb:

i had to get a new door lock. I had it re keyed to fit my key also. i need to loosen the two nuts though, my dad didn't line up the gasket right....i can't believe he didn't notice that.....stupid porsche owner.....
