I had a similar problem with my '86 During cold weather. All would be fine in the morning, but when I would start the beast for the ride home from work the light and buzzer would annoy the hell out of me for 4 or 5 blocks then stop. Try this. On your next cold start pop off the radiator cap (Upper radiator hose) and bring the car up to temp and add coolent from there. Cured my trouble.

The warning light comes on when the radiator is low, not the coolant reservoir. Top up the radiator and your light should go off.
If the radiator is low and the reservoir is OK, you probably have a dodgy radiator cap. It's supposed to allow vacuum to pull coolant from the reservoir back into the radiator as it cools. I'd replace it.

Yeah. The cap. And while in the area, check and make sure that hose that runs to the overflow tank has NO leaks. Its gotta pull that water that overflows into the overflow tank back into the radiator as the radiator cools off. If its leaking it won't pull the water back into the overflow tank and you'll end up with a air pocket directly below the water level sensor. If the water level sensor does not make contact with the water in the radiator.......buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz x10
