Cuts out at around 4,000 RPM

1986 N/A W/newer motor... when i get on it hard it will run fine then cut out on me around 4,000 it just kinda starts making a wierd noise and looses power untill i let off the gas...if i pump the gas then it starts reving again but then will do the same thing at like 5,000 then i can pump the gas and same thing so on...i was guessing that its eather a fuel filter or maby spark plug leads...?my roomate told me when his plug wires went out it happind all at once and the same sort of thing happind but that was a piston motor... also when i start it up in the morning the RPM's bounce i was wondering if this is a problem or if this is somthing normal..

thanks.......

when was the last time it had tuneup? change the plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, etc etc. Check the engine grounds. Sounds like an issue with your secondary injectors, but if the other stuff isn't up to date then you're just taking a shot in the dark.

If it feels like hitting a brick wall it could also be stuck/sticking aux ports.

3800 rpm hesitation.... search for this to.

or try:

Clean Inyectors from Prestone of the Syntec (silver presentation... with 7 gallons)

Replace the filter Gas

or ...(this weekend I do) drain the tank of gas and clean the filter of the pump!

I'd check the pre-cats & main cat to make sure they're not plugged. My car runs so rich it toasted all of them before I switched to straight pipes, and it definitely lost almost all power over 4000 rpm.
