Cut on headlight without popping the lights up
 

other than holding down the flash...I know it can be done. What wire would i run a switch to, and where is the best tap location in order to cut the lights on while they are in the lowered position. I don't want to pull fuse or anything gay like that.I want them to function while driving. this would be for late night meets and such. i think that with the HID,s it will look cool coming through the ftp lenses. I know it serves no purpose, so no need to bash if you think its a waist of time blah blah, go make your own thread on how stupid light mods are. Any help however is much appreciated. I know it can obviously be tapped near the ftp flasher, i just dont know what two wires to run through a switch

unplug motors at meet, turn lights on, plug back in when leaving

remove the fuse and thats it lights will still turn on without the motor going up....

So you want the lights to turn on when in the down position. If this is so then take a wire of the proper length and jam one end into the back of the White/Blue wire at the headlight relay. Then run it through the firewall to a cutoff switch that has the other end grounded to the body. Flip the cutoff switch which then passes a ground to the W/L wire and the lights should turn on in the down position.

You could also gain access to the headlight switch harness in the car and splice into the W/L wire there if you so chose to do so.

Either will work. One is easy to remove if need be while the other is a bit more invasive.

after seeing pictures of some guy's wiring I would not advise this to just anyone.

try putting a kill switch between the hot wires to the motors...

Pull the RETRACT fuse and the assy's won't come up.

Install a switch to open the circuit b/t the headlight harness and the retract motors is another way. That would be the solid RED wire in the plug or you could use the RED/BLUE instead.

The goal was not to disable the function of the motors in any way, merely just replicate the ftp function for longer duration and not have to hold the flasher.

i had a set of cluster switches that did exactly as you ask, i could turn the head lights on and off and the retractors wouldn't move, BUT if i turnd the restractor switch above the headlight switch, then the restractors would come up.

you have to go inside the switch and unsolder a particular connection or to to isolate the circuits. i wonder were that old switch might be :scratch:

The above is the same as post #5 if one takes into consideration the White/Blue is the same thing as the R/W in the post above. Both the same animal, just a color change from one connector to the other.

now THATS what Im talking about. This is what I was going to do, just needed to know it was the red/white wire.

actually my wiring is different. Im a '90 vert. my turn signal knob is on the column, not the bezel and there is no red/white wire that would be for the lights, must be another color, the only colors coming from the turn signal/flasher switch are: green with yellow stripe,green with red stripe, green with black stripe, white with blue stripe, and black

alright, I figured it out. I wasn't wanting to take apart the switch, bc I thought I may damage it, or springs would pop out, etc. anyways, was no big deal. The black is the ground wire, the greens feed the turn signals and the white with blue stripe is the FTP ( which i tapped a switch into) you can add it to your ftp mod page Aaron Cake :)

because everybody else is talking about the headlight switch in the cluster and not the turn switch. See the attached jpg from the free onlne wiring diagrams.

These are series five jpgs attached and it was a series four jpg attached in my other post above, but as you can see they are close to being the same and are the same concerning the R/W gnd wire to the headlight relay..........which turns into another color later prior to the headlight relay.
