Custom vs. RB exhaust

I plan on installing a new exhaust system on my TII because my old one has started to leak. The one i initially wanted to buy was the full RB exhaust system, but that would take me awhile to save up for. So, would it be as beneficial to install a 3 inch custom exhaust without the cats and mufflers (mufflers fell off)? Would i have to install a Fuel cut controller? Should there be a specific type of metal that the exhaust should me made of? To my knowledge the less backpressure a turbo encounters the faster and stronger it will spool which obviously means more power? So, by having a straight exhaust i will be able to reach the maximum potential of the turbo relying that the custom exhaust has smooth bends right? Let me know what u guys think............

with some things you cant go cheap... ie: exhaust

i've seen some custom exhausts on rx7 and most shops do a shitty job of making them and all of them sound like garbage. i'd look at corksport, i have their catback exhaust, with racingbeat's dp+prescliencer and i like it

Any full 3" exhaust (no cats) is going to up the boost....you will need an FCD, and to be safe AT LEAST a better fuel pump, and I'd probably recommend bigger secondaries to compensate for the extra boost. A boost gauge is also a must have so you can see exactly what boost level you're hitting.

Replace the part that is leaking with RB and then later on replace the rest of it with RB.

You will need a FCD to be safe from fuel cut. But getting a larger exhaust isn't going to raise boost that much to require larger injectors/fuel management/fuel pump. Replace your exhaust, get the FCD and you'll be fine with that. You will need a boost gauge to see exactly where your at. Also, I recommend some type of A/F gauge or wideband or EGT gauge just to make sure you won't blow your engine.

i dont know if you would need a FCD for the custom system, but i know that you need one for RB full exhaust

I always choose dyno tuned proven products before custom up to the level they are applicable for.

Most every aftermarket exhaust tops out around optimal for 400whp or less. If your goal is more HP then 375whp it is my opinion to go custom and larger. Maybe 3 to 3.5 all the way back or even larger.

My project FC is 4in to duel 3in.

Unles you have some type of bridge, or something bigger then like a GT35R, Racing Beat is for you. If you have either of the 2 listed above, yeah, I'd most likely want a 3.5-4" exhaust.

Rb Ftw!

So it's safe to say i should save up the money and just buy the good stuff? Would a downpipe be a good place to start?

Exhaust mods are scary on a Turbo without proper tuning.. A 3 inch downpipe can cause boost creep and kill your car... be very careful

Yea... my best friend is a perfect example of that. Lets take a 2nd gen supra and add a 3" exhaust... He was hitting fuel cut (and full boost on the stock boost gauge which is only 8lbs) at like 3K and the turbo was spooling alot more. At that point I told him to get it tuned and at least to get a piggy back and a better fuel pump (b/c he already had nice size injectors.) He didnt listen and kept driving his car. He says, "it doesnt hit fuel cut when I half throttle it so I'll just drive like that for a while. Well, when we hooked up an aftermarket gauge we found out that the car was hitting like 15lbs and spiking even higher... At that time I told him to stop driving it all together... To make a long story short, he detonated and now the 7MGTE is toast. Now mind you, this all happened in a few days. Hooked up the HiPower exhaus on Thursday... car sittin on the side of the rode smoking on Sat. morning. Be careful with forced induction...

Well, now i'm a little worried.....so to prevent that i need to buy a boost gauge and a boost controller? I'm not positive on what a piggy back system is. And the FCD is the same as the fuel cut controller right?

Ice we finished my complete 4 inch system. This thing is going to flow.

I used all 4 inch SS with 3 45 degree mandrel bends and a few 3 degree chop cuts and it came out great. I used 1 4inch oval magnaflow SS and 1 round magnaflow SS. If I had to do it over again I would have used 2 ovals.
Fits under the car with ease and have room for a 5 inch DP if you wanted it and I have a vert with less room due to the cross member. These giant exhaust systems will propell these new turbos out on the market to hp numbers normally only found with race gas.

I wish I could fit 5in tryd the RHD makes it tight.

[B][I]whats the best exhaust system available for the fc3s economically and performance wise?

Roen 03-12-07 01:12 PM

stock. $0 for the same performance you have now.

rx7 SE 03-13-07 08:08 PM

as far as i know it would be racing beat ftw! That's wut i'm saving 4
