Custom Targa Top on FC Needs Finishing Inside

I got my FC a few days ago, Evil Red Rotary! anyways it had a custom Targa Top Made for it, but the inside isn't completed, does anybody have tips for interior work, was kinda playing with the idea of grabbing some diamond plate pattern aluminum sheeting and covering the roof with that and painting it black with a red design on it, iv got pictures of the top and the car on my page, take a look any help would be great, thanks

P.S. its also needs better sealing, in arizona it doesn't rain much, but when it does its bad, and this top leaks due to poor sealing by the fabricator. . . help

I would have used the convertibles targa top instead, as then you would have the gaskets and locks and seals you would need.

If you didn't use a Vert targa section as the template, then you will have to cust fab everything.

that is a very interestingly styled car. I like the targa top.

headliners are relatively easy..just get a flat panel of whatever material you like at lowes and cut out your shapes.

great, yeah i dont like convertible 7's but i like targas alot and i like coupes. so i lucked out, i just have to finish what they started, not a surprise i've had to undo things, like the taillight cover they put on, bleh

Wow. That is interesting to say the least. Never seen that. Looks good! Thanks for removing the ugly tinted plexi from the last owner..

I don't think you understood. The vert comes with a Targa section, so if you had used that Targa section as your template for cutting the roof (or even better used the Targa section itself) You would have an already finished panel with the proper seals and locks already.

Did you beef the frame up when you cut out that section of the roof? If you did not then the car will just fold on some nasty bumps or an accident.

i kinda want the headliner to also cover the mechanical parts of the top as well, to do that id have to actually shape it and cut hole for the button and lever on each side heres a pic

I'M not the one who modified the car . . .

Fritz_X 11-18-04 04:16 PM

Mark he bought the car that way and didn't fab it himself :)

The car has a 3-point roll bar, other than that nothing yet, but i would like more support, seeing that fc's are kinda weak in the middle section, any pearls of wisdom?

staticguitar313 11-18-04 04:19 PM

i'm just trying to fix another persons lazy work here, the top fab (so far) is decent, but i've got alot to do and any tips, any positive tips would help

that's kinda cool. Yesterday me and a friend were actually talking about whether or not a targa top would look good on an FD... It looks pretty cool on the FC

Daniel577h 11-18-04 08:17 PM

those are the locks off a del sol

7th Heaven 11-18-04 09:36 PM

that targa top is SICK!

vipers 11-18-04 10:09 PM

damn... it looks factory.... nice fab job.... kudo's to those who performed the operation.,..... i would use fiberglass for the inside...... lay it, spray it..... vuala.... if you were to do it right and paint it the same color as your car, that would look bad ass!! good idea about taking that gawd awful plexiglass cover off.... tacky

staticguitar313 11-18-04 11:15 PM

bingo, and the winner is Daniel577h for identifying the del sol targa latches, haha cool

staticguitar313 11-18-04 11:19 PM

yes plexi was the first thing i did to the car, it looked terrible, and now that its off i feel better, i just need new taillights now b/c of the screw holes . . . i havent even gotten down to the DMV yet tomorrow maybe, depends i work durning the time its open

hey does anybody have the speaker covers that go on the shock towers in the rear?

staticguitar313 11-18-04 11:22 PM

yet again i'll be adding more pics to my cardomain site :D i guess my car is turning alot of heads, turned my head but its wasn't the sole reason for buying that red devil heh. . .

Turblown 11-18-04 11:22 PM

cool

JoeHawk 11-18-04 11:55 PM

That is so amazingly sexy. Can you find out how much it cost to do that? And how did it affect the structurl integrity of the car?

staticguitar313 11-19-04 12:43 AM

car seems stiff still id imagine that the 3 point roll bar helps a bit, i'm seriously considering making a set of nice fat frame rails though, just to make sure, until then the car should bee fine, i dont drive it hard and arizona os pretty much dead flat land in my area so i think i'll be okay as long as i dont jump the rail road tracks down town :P
