custom resonator?

i went to the muffler shop today because my exhaust is too loud for my taste (motoria duels). and the owner said he can stick a 36" resonator on my car before the y pipe, which means he's gonna cut some of the downpipe off to install it. My question is, is it gonna be too hot around that area for a custom resonator? And will it quiet it down at all? Thanks

Yeah, you will melt fiberglass packing. After melting it out it may be slightly quieter than before, but sound quality and flow may suffer. What you need is a ceramic wool packed resonator.

It will help with the noise. I have one on my Racingbeat setup. Check their site out to see what kind of resonator they use.

I installed an Dynomax resonator. I like now the sound level of my RX7

I'm using corksport's racepipe (basically a resonator of sorts), which has no packing at all, just baffeling surrounding the 2.5" center. For only being 10" long, the thing works extremely well. The other common choice is racing beat's presilencer which has steel wool packing, and is about 20" long.

Yes, adding a resonator will reduce the flow a little, but it will lower the sound and give the exhaust a deeper, meaner sound (IMHO...) It is truly worth it and I feel that all rx7s should have one b/c they sound too ricey w/o them...

Or, get yourself a Borla XR1 and weld it up where it fits...it'll sound excellent.

i have a custom made one. well its actually an expansion chamber more than anything but it works. its a down pipe and presilencer in one. its 2.5in to 4in bulge. it was a total botch to make but it works like a charm.

Yes, Borla XR-1 is where it's at, and it can take the rotary EGTs.

Actually stainless steel packed, similar to our exhaust tips.

I agree with the rest though, the Borla XR-1 is a piece we've had a lot of success with on customer cars.

Borla XR-1 FTW, or one of the RB mufflers (actually made by SMB in Australia); either one will quiet your car CONSIDERABLY!

I have a xr-1 muffler after my downpipe. Very pleased with noise level, adds a very deep tone to exhaust. Love it!!!
