Custom Gauge Cluster?
Is there a place online that has Pre-cut dash pieces that will replace the cluters set and let you fit Autometer Gauges? or other Aftermarket one's?
reason i ask is i will be doing a 350 swap here soon and wanted to redo the dash.. Engine and trans will be up for Grabs soon as well |
|
lost me.. the dash from these?
|
he meant get a camaro and put the 350 in..
You got to custom make one yourself. Im not a fan of autometer gauges in a japanese car. |
i was useing it as an Exsample ;) any idea what size the gauge holes are on the 89's an up with the Round setup
|
They are small, approximately 45 mm. Your best bet is to grab some ABS and start cutting if you want a complete custom setup. I believe some manufacturers make 45 mm gauges, so you could just hollow out the stock cluster and put some in.
|
If you're going full custom, I'd use Speedhut gauges over Autometer.
Many of the 2nd gen swappers keep the stock cluster but replace the mechanical speedo with an electronic one from an Acura (which is apparently a very easy swap). In that case, Digital Dakota boxes are used for both the speedo and tach to get proper readings. One of the best swaps I've seen used the gauge cluster from the donor Camaro- he did some very nice plastic work to meld the stock bezel to the new gauges. No matter what, the fuel level gauge is going to be the tough one...Mazda is backasswards from most other cars and almost anything but stock is difficult to get right. |

this is the thread that got me thinking speedhut gauges for the winter
I like the stock look but always wanted something better, and to get rid of the smaller gauges in my car, gps speedo is really cool, especially for the t56 swap guys https://www.rx7club.com/interior-exterior-audio-26/cluster-issues-my-solution-speedhut-gauges-retro-fit-959423/ Attachment 717099 Attachment 717100 http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/233...ringwheelx.jpg |
That's very sharp looking. To me, something like that looks right at home in an FD. I always picture the FC as more of a 1980s thing, which something like that almost looks too modern to me for an FC.
|
the gauges are customized, point is they look stock, not aftermarket especially because the brand of gauge is not plastered across the front of it
|
OoOooO i like that, very sharp indeed

pull the dash out, pull the gauge cluster off and take your own measurements. if you need to ask... want someone to cut the holes for you too? |

not getting any tonight or something? no need to act like that for a simple Question most smaller gauges are 52mm or you can get them as small as 45mm which is about as good as it gets for the fuel, oil and temp gauges. the tach is 112mm and the speedo is 94mm. want me to convert that into inches for you? by the way, most people make their own blank, cut it to whatever size they need and put whatever gauges they want into that. the question is also pretty vague. maybe you want a CAD drawing of the exact opening size so you can fit as many gauges as possible? |
