crush washers

i was told that if cut the crush washers off your plugs then you get a higher compression. is this true? and if it is, is it safe?

KillaKitiie 01-04-07 02:05 AM

Tech, its true but not enough to do anything, now ive done this before and let me tell you something its not worth your plugs backing out while driving becuase it will happen.

RotaryEvolution 01-04-07 02:05 AM

no it's not true, it can possibly cause the plugs to bind up and break while installing/removing though or maybe even put the face of the plug in the path of the apex seal and well you can just guess what that means..

well technically it is true but not of any noticable difference.

thats what i thought, but i wasnt sure. thanks

I thought i heard somewhere that it does just not hardly anything...and definatly not worth doing. oh well my bad my bad.

Just to clarify, whoever told you this should be mentally placed in the "doesn't know jackshit of value" catagory. Yes technically reduces combustion chamber volume and therefore increases CR (minutely) but all of the aforementioned downsides FAR outweigh any gain.

touge_monster 01-04-07 04:00 PM

mazdaspeed7 added to that category ^^^

I used to cut them off after reading a post in here a looong time ago. Something about getting the spark a little closer to the chamber. Only had a plug back out once, and that was easy to fix.

Stopped doing it b/c I finally decided it was a wasted effort and NGK probably puts those bits on there for a reason... :)
