Cruise Control Maddness...Need Help!

So I was driving to work today in my 90 vert when my cruise control cut on (by itself) and went WOT. Nothing I did to disengauge it work so I was flying down I 20 at about 115 with the brakes depressed. Even if I cut the car off and re-cranked... it still ran WOT. Well after nearly killing the engine and myself I got stoped and reset the ECU. I was wondering if anyone has ever had this problem or did I get the black sheep cruise module?

I doubt it was the cruise control... what makes you think it was (since the cruise control is locked out by the brakes)??? Do your brake lights not work???

More than likely a stuck throttle or even more likely the floor mat jammed against the throttle.

and the ECU would have nothing to do with the cruise control so resetting it would do nothing if the cruise control was the problem.

<edit:
and how did you reset the ECU anyway???

If it was cruise control the brakes would have turned it off immediately. Was the peddle stuck to the floor? I second the stuck throttle plates or twisted throttle cable.

Because the master switch was on, and if the throttle was stuck wide open I would of had to been running wide open, I was going 60 on the interstate at about 2700 RPM's when it went nuts and yes my brake lights work. Unless for some strange reason the butterflies opened, which I dout and if so why only after reseting the ECU would the problem be fixed? Also it couldn't be the floor mats becasue I don't have the drivers side mat in my car.

To reset an ECU you diconnect your battery for about 30 min. Red neck way of doing it.

That would not reset the ECU unless you had a S4 which you say you do not.

I very much doubt it was the Cruise... could be a stuck cable, or damaged wiring to the cruise actuator, but I doubt it was the cruise control computer....

Theres no way that it could be a stuck cable could it? Stuck cable would have stuck at the speed and RPM's I was turning right? Not just blast wide the heck open like that. I mean it was so sudden, it scared the crap out of me.
