crap removal / header installation question

ok so i just got my racing beat header yesterday. im hoping to get it put on today or tomorrow but i dont know what to do about the 5/6 ports. I would like them to still function but i no longer have the pipe to the cats because the cats no longer exist. so is there some other way i can get the air pressure needed to operate the ports? Also my air condition no longer works and i would like to take it off the car. can i remove the belt for the compressor? does that belt power anything else besides the ac compressor? any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

I would ask what series car you have, but it would probably be easier to say go get a RB presilencer too. It will make the header a lot easier to live with, not to mention you won't be as much a target for the cops. ;) Plus, if you do have a S4, the aux. ports should still get enough back pressure to operate correctly.

yeah its an s4...i was afraid someone was gonna tell me to go spend more money lol. is there any free or really inexpensive ways to keep them working because im fresh out of cash now

only thing that might be free is if you wired them open, or you can activate your ports w/ your air pump. IF you still have your stock cat back, they might still work.

well the cheap way of having your aux. ports open is to wire them open and IMHO it's not the best idea because you lose a lot of low end power. but that is another option if you really want to save some money.

alright looks like im going to have to just get a presilencer to work the ports. thanks for the quick responses.

ya you shjould definatly get the presilencer if you want your 5ht & 6th ports to function properly, but have you should check to see if they are actually working, I know there is a thread about it on the forum somewhere. lates matt22

For the ghetto-rific cheap way to get your ports to work check out Kevin Landers page at http://www.rotaryresurrection.com/ under Tech/ Airpump 6 PI

I hear often that if you have the stock catback that the 5th and 6th ports will still have enough back pressure to operate. Try to see if they still work after you put the header on. No point in wasting any more money if you dont have to.

If he doesn't have teh split air tube he needs another one. not just a pre-silencer. From what I read in his post he doesn't have the split air tube anymore.

If you have back pressure that doesn't make the ports just open majicaly. You need to route the pressure through the split air tube and to the ports otherwise they won't work at all even with the back pressure int he exhaust.

PlayinW/Wankel 08-10-03 06:22 PM

what exactly is the split air tube? the tube that used to run to the cat is still there...just kinda hanging there is that it? and i do have the stock cat-back on the car, so i just have to hook up that tube somewhere in my exhaust then to have enough pressure to open the ports?

1987RX7guy 08-10-03 06:37 PM

Yeah I had gotten the impression you didn't have it. Even if you hook it up to the exhaust there is no garrantee that your 5th and 6th port will work properly.
If this were me I would hold off on the install untill I had the pre-silencer.

You could do this too. It also involves spending more money.

ok around 80 dollars less than the RB silencer but with this you have to keep the air pump and construct that setup.

I personally don't see the point in keeping the pump and the silencer makes the exhaust tone a lot better.
