...crap... (headlight vs. rock)
So, I was driving home from an interview today (the world's first six-hour long two-hour drive) in the pitch-ass-black dark, and I wondered "Why are my lights so freaking dim?" Then I realized that a rock took out one of my headlights.
It was pouring down rain too, btw... Lots of fun. And my wiper only works on low. And the headlight that DID work is pretty freaking dim, IMO. Now, the question is whether it's Sylvania Silverstars are worth the extra money and shortened life span (versus normal halogens), or if I should just save my money? How much brighter are they really? And do they sell the ones that don't have the retarded blue tint in the US? |
i have silverstars on my truck and on my civic and have a set for the FC.
Significantly brighter and clearer than stock but ive never noticed a bluish tint with them |
ive owned a few pairs of silverstars in multiple cars, and bought my FC with them already installed.
noticeably brighter than stock, but a good set of jdm blue bulbs (real ones) or HID's will be night and day (seriously, it's like day time). i noticed first thing driving my FC home when i bought it was that i couldn't see jack shit in the rain. |
The light itself they put out isn't blue, but I know the capsule lights (H4, etc) have a blue tint to make the light look whiter (fake HIDs)...
I hope the sealed lights don't have the tint, since it just blocks light (yellow light is better than white light). |

But I've also never heard of them. Ebay...:squint: |
haha, i've seen on plenty car forums, people swear by them. But they are so good because they are E-code lights. I did some research and thats headlights designed for Europe, they focus on the road and sidewalk(lots of bikes/mopeds in europe). So yea search em up. ull find what you like ;)

I have the Silverstars just put on the FC. Love them to death. I got the H4 housings from Black dragon Auto and got the H4 Silverstars. No blue tint at all, much whiter and brighter then stock. Never tried the Sealed beam Silverstars so I can't help there
|
I have the top of the line silverstar(came with the car) and bought some okay ebay ones and those have a brighter light then the silverstar. but the silverstar's are more focused ahead, while the ebay light up beside you a good bit too. for the $30-$40 ebay range its all about tradeoff.

I bought and installed some Silverstars...
I'd say they're about 15% brighter, but the light goes much, much wider, which is good. The low beams are much more impressive than the high beams when it comes to comparing them to the old lights, but I've got them aimed too low. |
before you do anything, get the hella E code H4 conversion housings. The DOT ones suck and all that ebay diamond cut stuff sucks. rallylights.com is the place to get them, those with a decent bulb will exceed your expectation.
