Crane HI6 ignition Systems
Hi all,
done a search etc, but am wondering if u guys that have fitted any type of Crane Ignition system can provide a report, small or big on fitting the system, the results, and if you were happy with the results, fitted to any rotary, doesnt matter. I work for Crane in australia, and we are trying to get into the rotary market a bit better, (me being a rotor head etc) trying to get prices down, and to get some written benifits on them, also list existing mods etc the best report will get a Crane Ignition T-Shirt sent to u, care of Crane in the USA We also do NOS systems aswell, same goes for that. I used the Hi-6 for awhile and had no problems with it... better MPG, 2-3HP, runs smoother but the spark plugs fouled faster...

I use 2 Crane Hi-6 and 2 LX-92 on the 2 leading coils (BR10EIX) and left the stocks sytem intact for the trailing coils.
I had to add fuel to the midrange and high end to retain my desired A/F - a sure indication I had prior been having ignition misfire with the stock system. I did not notice any smoother idle (streetported- could use some smoothing), but I did notice slightly better response in the low end. Much improved midrange and even more gains in the high end. Our stock ignition systems are quite good, but the dual post leading coil is a weakpoint in the upper RPMs- especially in a high boosted rich running car. I got the idea from Irv (Keith's dad) and Peter (user names of Keith and RICE RACING respectively on this forum). So, there are at least 3 of us using this exact same ignition set-up. What does a ignition misfire sound like? When the car is overly rich?

I use the HI6 and love it. Though the rev limiter does not seem to work right when wired to rotorys.
Easy to install, and you will notice a differnce right off. |
well the rev limiter will only cut leading with one box... so the car can keep going off trailing.

either that or it's set to the wrong mode so the box doesn't know the correct rpm.
I gave my blue wire 12v so it's in 4cly mode. as told to do by ReTed. |

My seconday throttle plates got stuck open on a full pull dyno run, I went to let off at 7.8k and it kept going, it sounded like it was breaking up, but it got over 9k before i had time to hit the key ... I had the limiter set at 8k. |

What does a ignition misfire sound like? When the car is overly rich?
Like a silent gap in the exhaust pulses. But you really can't hear the difference in anything much over idle. In the higher rpm ranges where it is likely to happen on a high boost rotary running rich it is only noticeable as a former lack of power once you fix it. Boy, does it feel good to fix it. :D |
