Crane Cams HI-6 blown?
 

Alright I just need a reality check. when I connected the pos wire to the battery terminal it sparked. could this have blown the unit or is it capacitors in the unit taking in a charge? It only sparked the first time I touched it to the battery. I had it grounded already as per fc3s.org's instrustions.

The leadings arn't firing right (Cant idle)and I need to know if I should troubleshoot further. Everything is wired as best I know how.

Have you wired In the Blue wire?

Besure to hook up the Blue Wire to have It configured properly. Eitherwise It will be set up for 8 cylinder as opposed to 4 cylinder/Rotary.

I'm pretty sure that I saw that spark when I did an install. All is well. Not a problem (if everything else is connected up properly).

Yes indeedy. Find a switched 12v source for the Blue wire. On one car I found it in the electric fan area....on another I used the automatic suspension plug that just hangs there unused on the left strut tower.

I attached the blue wire to the thin red wire for 4 cylinder operation as the crane manual says. I bought the unit used off ebay so im thinking its junk because the status LED never comes on....ever.

I believe some of these boxes have fuses built into them. You might try calling Crane to ask about your situation, though I don't know how good their tech support is. I know when I have called MSD in the past they have been rather helpful, I have even heard of them replacing broken units sent into them that were not by the original owner or under warranty anymore...though since you don't have an MSD box I don't know how that helps you :)

No, using it in 8 cylinder mode risks blowing the motor unless the multi spark is turned off b/c in 8 cyle it wont stop multi sparking until 6000 rpm, which will sparkthe preceding chamber in its compression stroke.

* In regards to the Crane Cams HI-6 Box*

The Blue Wire when hooked to 12V sets the CDI multi- spark duration, It all so tells the CDI unit how many Revs or Ignition Pulses there are.

When the Blue is hooked up to the Trailing Signal Module it sees 4 strikes per two Shaft Revolutions, which means the unit knows when 3000rpm is actually happening (cause this is the same strike rate as a 4cy 4 stroke"4 Ignition Pulses per 2 engine RPM's") and so it can turn off the "Multi Spark" which can trail for up to 30 deg of Crank Rev after the Ignition point, if it is firing near TDC or say 10deg before usually in Wasted Mode this Spark would happen in the Exhaust Cycle, but because it can go for up to 30 deg after the Ignition point you could see how it could infact fire well before it is meant to in the Compression Stroke of the wasted chamber. Hence this could be a problem if it is not turning off this feature at higher rpm. I am guessing but this could be a problem if it is possible...
