Crackling Noise from ECU

So, this isn't the first time this has happened to me. It killed the first ecu in the car, and I'm assuming it's working on the 2nd.

I hear a crackling noise from my ecu. I was 90% positive it was in relation to my OMP because on my last ECU I smelled electrical burn, my car went into limp mode, and my OMP and ECU both were dead. So I replaced both.

Well, everything was fine, and then the crackling from the ECU started again. I regrounded all the grounds, looks as well as I could for any shorts, but I just don't know where it would be shorting at.

Has anyone else ever had this issue? Or how do you all think I should fix it? Just run new wires to the OMP and hope that fixes it?

Disconnect the leads at both ends (ECU and OMP). Use a voltmeter to check and see if there is voltage present on any wire with the ignition on (short to a hot circuit.) If none, use an ohmmeter to check each wire for resistance to ground, and to the others. It should be infinity. If it is not, there is a short. You can trace it down, or just snip the leads at each end and run new wires.
