could my 88TII beat a 93TT w/streetport
im finally gonna see what my car can do against a 3rd gen. popdukes gets his 7 out the shop saturday w/a rebuild/streetport.
he has 1. turbo back exhaust (3 in. dp) 2. 6 puck with h/d pressure plate will he spank the shit outta me or will i stay close at least, what you guys think? |
you won't get spanked, but you are carrying a couple hundred pounds more weight. depending on your port job you both should be running about the same horsepower.
|
my ports are stock
i would love to tear my motor apart to do the porting myself but i have no tools or shop. so gonna have to wait till a rebuild is needed.
he should have 350 hp i should have about 270 hp if he has the wieght advantage then im done, the one thing that i think might help me is the fact that he doesnt have an intake yet. |
You are insane. Look at the #'s.
Firestarter |
those numbers sound kinda inflated. I's say he is a lil closer to 270 and you maybe 220. But I'm an NA guy so don't listen to me.
|
well
255 bonestock + open exhaust (if the rb turbo back for mine gives me 59 hp) then it should do the same if not more for him, i suppose. so then his numbers would look somethin like this
stock 255hp exhaust 59hp streetport (20%) 51hp total 365hp now this is not 100% accurate i know but it would be close, wouldnt it? as for me stock 182hp exhaust 59hp intake 10hp jacobs ign. 5hp (3%hp) safc 5hp (at least) total 261hp this is f/w hp not r/w hp |
I would have to say that you will get beat..
|
That is my point exactly. 3rd Gens are mean.
Firestarter |
i know i will get beat, geez!!!!
im asking if you think i would get beat really bad or just a lil?
|
i thought you meant you had the street port and he had stock ports. In this case you will loose. I thought you were refering to yourself as "popadukes" whoops!!
|
You'll probably get beat, but the hp numbers you quote might be a little off depending on boost levels and mods.
TII's run 5.5 psi stock, adding a full exhaust lets boost get up to 8-10psi. Even if your only running 8psi that is a 45% increase over stock boost levels. FDs run 10-12 psi stock, adding an exhaust will raise boost, hopefully he's done something to control it. If he added 45% more boost then he should be running 15+ psi, which is getting up there for stock twins. Also if he has stock intake, and IC that is too much boost. Jeff 93 R1 13.59 87 TII 13.58 <--- significantly lightened... |
Are you on crack?
Horsepower - Advantage FD Torque - Advantage FD Curb Weight - Advantage FD (unless it's the Touring Model) Traction - Advantage FD IMO your only hope against being slaughtered is that his FD breaks down, which is a pretty good possibility. :D |
hahahaha
ok, ok ima get whooped. hey turbo jeff what did you do to the 87 TII to lighten it up.
please share what you did, i need to lighten my 88TII. |
Its really gonna kinda depend, if he sits on the line or not. Your gonna get beat but its gonna depend on quite a few other factors, how badly...
Nice mods tho :) All is fair in racing tho right, just have fun :) And dont get busted trying it .... |

I raced a stock FD on the freeway @ WOT. He couldn't leave me ('87 T2). I couldn't pass me. I had all the goody upgrades w/ a stock turbo. To the wheels on the dyno, my car hit 228.7. I had lighten the ENTIRE car.
On the launch...since he has a street port, the FD WILL get the jump. Your torque will peak around 5500-5600 rpms...shift about 1000 more...you should give him a run. |
Your friend shouldn't be racing his newly built motor the day he gets it outta the shop
He should adhere to the proper break-in shedule if he wants to keep that new motor healthy for awhile. And shame on you for encouraging him to race you so soon :D Shawn |
You ain't touching the FD unless you get rid of the stock turbo, period.

I think your Hp #'s are blown out of proportion, but the FD twins provide a lot more air than your (our) puny single turbo. As for the weight according to the Sports car color history Mazda RX-7, by John Matras says the FD base is 2,789 lbs and the touring with auto is 2,923lbs The 87-88 TII were 2,845 lbs and for the 89-91 TII a fat 3,003 lbs.

haha im gonna break from the crowd and say the FC will win just cause no one else has. yes ive seen all the data but come on the fc's have heart and like in football its heart that wins the game. i need to stop drinking...

Originally posted by Ryde _Or_Die Man, I didn't know the series 5 TIIs weighed that much. Well they have about 50 more hp than me stock but have 200-300lbs more weight. I think with a full exhaust & intake I could take a stock one then. |
thanks guys
for all your input on this. we are not gonna race right away, we will make sure he breaks the motor in. he's not my friend he's my father, lol. lucky bastard got a new motor, hahaha. well im no expert on the horsepower levels when you do upgrades so i did my best.
so guys would you agree that i should shift at 6600 rpms to get maximum power???? im a lil confused here because some guy on this forum said my peak would be around 7500 with my mods. |
Originally posted by hawk 7 I doubt it, look at the published times for both vehicles. I have a full exhaust on my 86GXL and when my uncles TII was running properly I could not touch it. |
