Could it be a bad air flow meter?

Does anyone know if a defect air flow meter causes any specific symptoms?
I have heard that the idle will always be irregular and that it is almost impossible to go above 40 miles/h? Someone suggested that my car may have a bad AFM but my only problem is that the car goes in a jerky manner. Not all the time - the problem can suddenly go away but will invariably return. I know it is not the gas filters or the sparks and i have tried to clean the injectors using different in tank solvents with no effect at all.

I'm familiar with that problem as well, mine used to jerk around quite a bit when it was cold. It stopped after replacing the AFM, the TPS, and the Water Thermosensor.... so it was one of those three, lol. If I had to make a guess I would say that it's the TPS outta whack rather than the AFM..... but if I remember correctly I replaced the AFM first, and that did seem to do the trick, I hope that didn't confuse you... good luck!
