corksport exhaust

well my setup is a rb downpipe, hollow cat, and the corksport cat back. Man that shit is loud . Is there anyone running a racing beat presilencer with it to make it more streetable. Thanks

Pookie 04-12-06 10:22 PM

I am running the RB presilencer with my CorkSport system. The presilencer takes some of the noise out, but not a lot. I've been pulled over three times in the last week and received a ticket tonight. Gonna try something else...

Jager 04-12-06 11:20 PM

Since its turbo, buy the borla XR-1 muffler and have it installed inline.

Noel Caraballo 04-13-06 09:28 PM

shit there goes my idea of a racing beat presilecer , im screwed. Would adding a high flow cat instead reduce the exhaust tone, thanks

wrankin 04-13-06 09:30 PM

Yes, a high flow cat should.

+1

Apparently the XR-1 makes it sound vicious too...

Stanello 04-14-06 01:38 AM

+2 for the XR-1.

I used to have a RB presilencer and switched to the XR-1. I was amazed at how little muffling that the presilencer did compaired to the Borla.

RenofHeavens 04-14-06 01:46 AM

Well I don't have a Corksport, but the RacingBeat quiets down my Apexi N1 pretty well, that is until the wastegate dumps ;)

fcdrifter13 04-14-06 01:54 AM

+3 XR-1 is the best

Got the idea from Ddub, man that car sounded badass.

mycarisolderthanme 04-14-06 02:41 AM

Any soundclips of Ddub's old ride with the XR-1?

fcdrifter13 04-14-06 02:43 AM

YOu can check his old threads it may still be around.

Ottoman 04-14-06 03:48 AM

how much more restrictive would u say the XR-1 is vs the CorkSport?

i'll be goin big single turbo soon and need all the flow i can get...

right now i've got the SC running straight through.. 3" downpipe, 3" exh all the way..

and it's still way quieter then my N/A is with RB DP and apexi n1 :D

I had one of the loudest exhaust systems ever heard on a 2nd gen and I installed a borla xr-1 and it worked great. here are some pics of the borla welded into a 3 inch thunder fab DP/Mp combo. And yes this will quiet the corksport down.

However now we are finishing up my new 4 inch exhaust system on Sat. and this time I went with SS magnaflows and they are cheaper and seem to be made out of better material. I also just put them up to the back of a friends HKS hyper single and the magnaflow sounds deeper and meaner than the Borla IMHO.

Both these exhausts are available from www.jegs.com with free shipping.

Borla Xr-1 oval is about $160
Magnaflow SS is about $120

fcdrifter13 04-14-06 07:58 AM

Im running strait pipes right now on one car. And its not that loud at all. Most people that say its loud havnt been around something loud(2cycle detroit max revs). But then again im half def, so yeah.

Rx7000 04-14-06 07:59 AM

I feel your pain, I have a corksport with just a high flow cat and a stock manifold on my 1990 GTU and its loud as hell. I had the apexi dual n1 before that and I dont think it was half as loud (A little more bassey but not that high pitched screaming sound, I added the silencer and its effect was minimal at best, not only does it kill some of the top end but it barley quiets the mufflers sound output).

Bukwild 04-14-06 08:21 AM

first thing's first, don't throw your money away on a POS presilenser because they don't do crap compared to a real exhaust.

Order one of these ovals from jegs and just hold it on to the back of your exhaust pipe while someone revs the engine and you will see what everyone is talking about.

The point of doing this is not to restrict your exhaust flow and rob performance. You want to deepen the sound of the exhaust and get rid of the "Japanese car" high pitch drone. The thick SS exhausts do not give a rattle sound when you knock on the side of them, they give a thud and the internals as you can see from my pics are straight through.

What a complete waste of $295 dollars.

Why anyone buys these i will never understand

The Corksport is a cat-back exhaust in this case. The Borla XR-1 will fit INLINE.

Noel Caraballo 04-14-06 06:00 PM

that does it im going straight to summit tonight and get the borla xr1. Its only a hundred and twenty dollars compared to racing beats 200 dollar silencer. Thanks guys for your advice .

Stanello 04-14-06 06:42 PM

Don't forget that you will need flanges welded onto each end, and maybe have it lengthened/shortened depending on your setup. You can get the flanges from RB.

Looks like the Magnaflow SS 3" muffler is 73 SHIPPED on ebay! Anyone running these?

Jager 04-15-06 12:44 PM

No because Magnaflow mufflers don't last very long inline, Borla's are pretty well made with time proven results. Spend the extra money the first time and be better off.

CHEAP will bite you in the ass.

mycarisolderthanme 04-15-06 04:09 PM

Do you know people who have run the magnaflows inline and had them shit out on them? Or is this just a generalization?

Jager 04-15-06 06:12 PM

Yes I do. Why else would I say it?

If you want to be cheap run it and replace it within due time. I really don't give a shit what you want to waste your money on.

mycarisolderthanme 04-15-06 08:23 PM

I was just asking you a question. If you haven't noticed, many people on this forum tend to speak in generalizations, without first-hand experience. No need to get hostile.

Besides that, thanks for the info, and congrats on post 3500.
