coolant seals
 

well i did some searching and i think that my coolant seals are blown:( .

it starts up fine, but after awhile of driving the temp sensor creeps up and the coolant boils and boils out of the overflow. i replaced the thermostat and flushed the radiator. so im thinking either the water pump is shot or the coolant seals are blown.

any thoughts?

also if it is the coolant seals, how major of a project is it and what am i looking at price wise?

If it is the coolant seals, your looking at a rebuild, which will require you to pull the motor and tearing it apart.

Do your self one favor and stop running the engine, your doing more damage to hard parts by running it

Price wise is it a turbo or NA? do it your self and have the tools or sending out - many many many choices that must be answered to give you a working budget.

you know check your radiator cap, if it is old or not sealing right it will do exactly what you are describing

its a n/a s4 and id do it myself.

its not the radiator cap, theyre both new so is the thermostat and all the hoses.

water pump or seals...

When refilling the cooling system make sure you've bled all the air out, it's not unusual for some to be trapped in the hoses running to the BAC. Start it up and run just until it's gotten hot but not boiling over. let it cool down.
It should pull about a half pint or so extra coolant back into the engine from the overflow tank.
when it's fully cooled off rebleed the air from air bleed at top of radiator and top off again.
Alos check for pinhole leaks in the cooling system hoses and fittings. it's hard to find some that can start in the radiator core.
another quick check for seal damage is when it's cold, pull the EGI fuse and crank the engine with the filler cap off, if you don't get a lot of coolant surging out when you crank it, it's probably not a seal problem.

topped it off-pulled the egi fuse-cranked it-coolant bubbled out every time.

Yes it is the seals. If you want to try it, there is a coolant seal fix that may give a temp respite while you get ready to do a rebuild. Go to the Rotary Resurrection site to read about it in his tech section.
