coolant puddle.. on top of engine at LIM
 

On my s4 tII lately I've been noticing my coolant light come on for the last couple days and that my reservoir kept emptying in a matter of hours. while glancing for the problem I noticed what you see in the pics. at first glance I thought it was fuel... thankfully it wasn't, it's definitely coolant. but where is it coming from?

from memory there may be coolant passages in the LIM.. I was also hoping it was not leaking from the outer coolant seal between a housing and the iron.

ofcorse I'm going to have to take action most likely by removing the UIM at least, I just thought i'd gather some ideas on what the problem is before I go in blindly.. That's the glory of forums.. has this happened to others?:Wconfused

oh so yours were leaking too.. yes i have emissions removed. there is no coolant through my throttle those ports are not hooked up. it looks like ill be taking the LIM off... i cant envision it in my head right now.. isn't there an O ring or something besides the gasket thats suppose to seal off the coolant passage in the LIM? I'm thinking if coolant can leak out of the LIM where it meets the block than air can too. that may explain why i think I'm having vacuum leak issues... then again it could just be paranoia

Looks like the hose from the rear housing to rear of waterpump.

Buy the two o'rings for the lower intake manifold BEFORE you take it apart. You do that so you can at least drive the car to the store once and a while while waiting for the parts.

i was thinking.. what are the negative side effects of completely blocking off the coolant ports in the LIM?

i just now noticed this and one of the housings I used was n/a and doesn't even have a hole for coolant.. so in effect over the last year was the coolant never circulating through the manifold correctly to begin with??

if that's the case and it wont work correctly with 1 port why not just block the other one off while i have the LIM off? my guess is the heat helps atomize fuel?

nevermind im an idiot... the turbo needs that coolant.

i know the turbo does get coolant. ive had ti off before and have seen the supply line drip

To confirm the problem turned out to be not the coolant port on the water pump housing but the port on the rear iron.. I capped it and the cap was leaking. fixed now.:icon_tup:
