Cool Air

Do you think this will work? I have not had a chance to really test it out but it works in theory.
The problem started when I changed out the factory air box and put the K&N look alike cone filter on. I noticed that my car did not have as much power after the change. The air filter was screaming hot ( hot air can't be good. ) I built a shield from plex-glass to try and get the air cooler. In addition to this I put 2 small scoops under the car and ran a 1in hose to the bottom of the new air box. Both scoops have a water mister just behind the scoop to drop the air temp. With all this work the end result was still a Box ( go figure )

Any suggestions for improvement would be great.

Did you know when vinyl tubing is heated, it deforms, releasing pretty noxious gasses? It really should have no place under any cars hood.

Oh and explain how you are feeding that "air box" because from how you explained it, it sounds like your starving the engine.

Hose looks way too small to let hardly any air in.

DerangedHermit 09-27-04 07:38 PM

It doesn't look much smaller than the stocker. But then again the whole point of this mod is to make something better than the stock system.

Thanks for the quick response. I will look at trying to seal off the box with something else.

The picture really sucks, you can't really see the hose that the air goes in. It is 1inch hose, I have 2 that go in the bottom of the air box and the one you see on top. The really small hose you see is the water line that feeds the misters.

no you need a bigger hose witch should be easy enough to find at home depo or something

rs_1101 09-27-04 08:33 PM

need bigger hose definitly.

robison 09-27-04 08:33 PM

Thanks for the suggestion, I will see what home depot has tomarrow.

Here is a better picture of one of the scoops under the car.

you can fit a 3" hose if you take out the windshield washer bottle and run it thru it

rs_1101 09-28-04 03:11 PM

once again, something the size of a vaccuum cleaner hose isnt going to power a 1300cc motor running at 6500 rpm.

hondahater 09-28-04 03:32 PM

yeah I'm making my own cold air intake for a turbo right now and I just bought a 15 dollar cold air setup from ebay for a 92-96 prelude. I just cut the piece that goes from the turbo to the afm, when I get my fmic in and ran I will then cut the peice that will go from the afm to the windshield washer bottle location.

robison 09-28-04 08:40 PM

Thanks for all the input. I think I will take out the wind shield washer bottle, my only concern is all the stuff you have to do just to clean the air filter.

hondahater 09-28-04 08:44 PM

if you look up in there it is going to be tucked away really nicely so that road grime and rain will have a harder time finding it.

robison 09-28-04 08:59 PM

Hey you're right, looks like the air filter will be shielded from dust. I think I will use the water container and pump that I have been using to mist the scoops for the wind shield washers.
