Convertible seats w/ headrest speakers ?
 

First off, I am a FB owner and I found a set of these seats at the junkyard. I threw them into my car.

What I wanna know is could I wire the speakers straight to the deck with the 4 wires coming out of the bottom of the seat?

With some small searching I have found out that the headrest speaker wiring leads to a rear amp and other areas that are needed for them to work.

Anybody wire them straight to a unit and have any luck?

if youre looking for good sound stage...this is not the way to do it. id get a battery(AA or 9 volt) and pop the speakers before even wiring them up, as they may be junk already

The reason they go to an amp is because it allows the driver to control the volume. If they're ran straight off the head unit, they may be pretty loud right by your ears. You *may* be able to get away with wiring a rheostat in series with them to control the volume, but I cannot confirm this.

So basically I wont be able to control the volume IF wired straight to the head units wiring.

I will have to look into the rheostat thing , never heard of such things.

But thanks a lot guys. Just thought it would be cool to retain the use of the speakers in the FB!

Assuming your Head Unit is self amped, just wire the rear output to the HR speakers instead of the actual rear speakers. The rear speaker placement in an FB sucks anyway.

I'd incorporate a splitter sending the highs to the HR speakers (their size is best for mid to highs anyway) and the lows to a separate self amped Bazooka tube that has it's own gain control so you can balance things.

I've never seen a blown HR speaker, but they really aren't that difficult to replace if you're careful. I've always thought that the HR speakers was one of the best things about a Vert.

Hozzman is speaking something similar to what I have done in the past. Before I had my HR speakers wired in correctly so that the headrest volume controls were function I did this. Wire the HR speakers from your rear output of your headunit. Then use the fader to control volume on HR speakers. It's not ideal but it works. I had mine setup so only the driver side was wired in..so that I'd have stereo on driver only.

I kinda want to keep the rear speakers working since they are after market .

I'm not a audio guru, but could I wire the HR speakers inline with the rear speakers .

And by rear outputs do you guys mean the red and white plugs in the back ?

What ever color code is the postitive and negative for the rear speakers is what we're refering to.

I wouldn't advise that shortcut of trying to drive two speakers from an output designed to drive only one speaker which is what you're suggesting. But taking that combo approach, I would suggest the high/low splitter and a secondary amp to drive the rear speakers treating them as low/mids and you don't overdrive the heardrest speakers.

I before you ask about another shortcut approach, my mother in law has a saying that goes "A lazy man does twice the work". Do it right the first time.

Putting Vert seats in your FB I think is a great idea. I was actually going to do that exact thing with my GSLSE. But I came across a killer deal on a pair of Recaro's so went that route instead. You'll have to do a bit of massaging of the seat rails to get the bolt holes to line up, but it really isn't that difficult.

And the seats are a super upgrade . They hug very well. Extra comfy. And leather!
