Convert 4 lug to 5 lug?

In a previous forum I had questions about rotor/brake upgrade suggestions and someone mentioned converting from my 4 lug configuration to a 5 lug. Is this a good idea & what would benefits be.? As usual thanks for the invaluable advice and input

Larger brake rotors. Four piston calipers.

Some of the 89-91 5 lug cars had regular brakes just like what are on yours now. Most of the 86-91 5 lug cars had 4 piston front brake calipers and vented rear discs, making them very good for braking and non-fading. This is the setup most people convert to. More aftermarket parts are available for the big 5 lug brake setup than the smaller versions.

BTW, if you're in the market, I have 4 such setups. Ill sell all 4 corners with hubs, rotors, brackets, calipers, everything for $100 plus shipping.

these are good for autocrossing and stuff that requires fast breaking, but if you want to be fast in the 1/4 I'd keep your 4 lug there considerably lighter that the 5 lug, and prolly aren't that much worse in breaking....

Very true, the last time I ran my car with my 5-lug swap my best time was a 14.7, while with the 4-lug I ran a 14.6. BTW I added wider, stickier tires, and a Y-pipe and still is slower.:(

My stability is much improved though IMO.:D

 to the base model! Low rotating mass has no equal, other than power, which is in short supply from our NA kegs.

If I were building an n/a drag only car, I would leave the phone dials on, and wrap them in wider, stickier rubber. i also wouldnt run with swaybars either. But then again I would probably start with a 1st gen.
