Continuation of Electrical Woes
 
So, i've yet to get my car started and it though i thought i connected everything as it should be, i realized i cant find a certain connection and where it goes to.

Firstly, I'm not getting any power to the starter. The battery to starter harness is connected and so is the "m" clip to the solenoid, well partly anyways. I cant find where the other side of the wire that clips to the solenoid connects to. They seem to have the same connector on both sides and I cant find anything else it might connect to.

Secondly, I'm getting power to the dash, but not to my gauges. From what I remember, The voltmeter should light turn on when the key goes onto the on position correct? I might have connected something wrong but again, I was connecting the harness correctly.

Lastly, I'm going to admit that I dont for the life of me know how to connect the stock oil pressure gauge....

Any advice, pictures, or diagrams on what connects to what would be greatly appreciated. I could use all the help I can as the FSM doesn't necessarily tell you what connects to what...

One last thing, This car comes with the "stock" alarm unit. I do not know if it was ultimately connected right or not.

there is only two wires that goes to the starter.
the battery cable, and the black/red solenoid wire.
The third wire goes to the rear of the motor of the starter from the solenoid.

As for the instrument panel, check fuse number 8
It powers the instrument panel and other things like heater I think. Its a 15 amp fuse, its the second column from the right, and third down that column.

For the oil pressure gauge its comes from the oil pressure sender straight to the instrument panel on pin 1c on the 1st connector. It should be a yellow/red wire. I forgot which connector is the 1st connector, but it should be if you looking at the panel when sitting in the seat, the 1st connector should be on the left side.



If you turn the key to crank and it doesnt, then something along the starting circuit needs fixing, if you jump the solenoid wire at the starter with battery voltage and the engine cranks, then its definitly something along the starting circuit.

On a S4, the solenoid wire goes from the ignition switch to the clutch switch, then to the starter cut relay near the trailing coils, then to the starter.
But when I look at the fsm for the S5, the only wiring diagram I see of the starter is a simple diagram with just ignition lock and clutch switch, not just of the picture I attached but also in the wiring section.....

Haha. That's what I was having trouble with. I tried jumping the solenoid directly to the battery and sure enough it cranks, So I know that the other end of that redblack wire goes somewhere, the only thing i can think of is that it follows the same connections as the s4. Not sure though.

As for the instrument panel, it lights up. As well as the dash. But the gauges won't function, I may have misunderstood, but are they governed by the same fuse?

on my s5, when I blow my instrument panel fuse 2 times a month atleast because of bad wirings (but is fixed since), when my fuse blew (fuse 8) the panel does light up, but none of the gauges work. Tach, battery, temp, fuel, none worked but the backlight does light up. I replace the fuse and everything works again.

You can back probe the starter wire and check for continuity at the clutch switch. Then check for continuity again from the clutch switch to the ignition switch.

Ah ok. I understand where you're getting at for the cluster. Right on.

As for the starter, so one last time, the wire from the solenoid goes to the clutch wiring? Makes sense. I just had that wire dangling loose from teh solenoid and wodnering where the hell it went to. This should help me solve this problem. I'mma get on it first thing tomorrow and report back.

Just thinkin..maybe the spade connector goes to a Temp sender by the oil pedestal
also check to see that the engine Fuse Block has a Wire that is Fed by a Thick black Positive with One Big clip.That runs the power to the lights,engine.,etc.If that clip is not connected you get nothing.
Check your alternator connector at the back of the alternator.That supplies the 12 volt reading to your dash(volt meter).
