A constant BEEP can be caused by the Power Steering!
 

I have been trying to cure a constant buzzing that annoyed the hell out of me! I checked the fluid levels and everything was fine! I checked the oil level sensor and the coolant level sensor, everything was fine!

I read a thread somewhere on here that described a similar situation and it got me to thinking it was the power steering computer!

I recently de-powered my rack and left the computer intact. In fact, all of the wiring was intact still (no cuts, just unplugged).

I pulled the connector to the power steering computer and FINALLY! NO BEEPS or BUZZES!

I have seen posted by some very knowledgable people that the PS computer can not cause a constant beep, but I am the second person on this forum that has had the same situation resolved by removing the power steering computer plug.

Beeps and Beeping are different than buzzers.

As covered many many many many many times, and in the FAQ for FC sticky thread.

A constant Beep (or beeping with no long pauses), from the power steering computer indicates that you probably do not have your speedometer working (again as covered in the FAQ for FC sticky thread).

Buzzers go off for low oil, low coolant and over rev... not for power steering issues... if you can't tell the difference between a buzzer and a beep (as clearly shown by your post)... well not sure how much anyone can help you in the future.

It is the same sound as the redline buzzer, no beeping!

I never said beeping in my post. I said beeping in my thread title to get it noticed if somebody searches.

If I am not mistaken, the beeping is a different sound than the redline buzzer. This constant buzz is the same as the redline buzzer.

Furthermore, the speedometer works just fine while this Buzzing is occuring, so it is not the same as is covered in the FAQ for FC sticky thread! <-- which I have read many times!

#1 You say constant beep, then change to buzz. (beep beep beep vs BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ) see the difference?

#2 I have rebuilt probably 100-150 power steering computers from every series of RX-7 made, and not one of them had a buzzer in them. However if they have a warning device in them, it is a speaker used as a beeper.

#3 you already funked with the power steering... "de-powering" it.

So...is this car a post 88 model? (since you failed to put model, or year)

And are you sure that it really is a buzzer and not just the relay inside the power steering computer buzzing from low voltage or some other issue. Is the now "buzzer" (instead of beeping) coming from the power steering computer or the dash board/gauges???

And how do you know you unplugged the power steering computer? Where was this box you unplugged located? and how many pins???

Sorry for the confusion.

The sound was a constant Buzz. It sounds exactly the same as the low oil or coolant buzzer.

When I unplugged the P.S. computer, the buzz went away.


The items I just posted in this post are all fact. If there is another explanation for this, I am all ears.

Sorry if im waking this one up from the dead or for jacking this but on my 86 gxl, i removed the ps pump because it is junk and i like the wide open space untill i find a new one BUT after it is removed i have a constant beep.beep.beep....beep.beep.beep and so on from when the key is on untill it is turned off, so asuuming there is such a thing as a PS computer could i just unhook this untill i get a new pump? or is there a profesional way of getting this done like a jumper wire kinda thing? thanks

i dont understand why everyone says "IF" there really is a computer for the ps.. it DOES exist and it's located just above your pedals...have a look and disconnect it to see what happens.
Is the beeping a soft beep? (kinda like when you leave the key on ACC when you open the door)

i just didnt see anything about a power steering computer in my haynes manual, and i didnt want to refer to something that dosnt exist, anyway all i did was pull the "power st" fuse to stop the beep

When you flip thru your Manuel its listed as #4 in the electrical stuff i believe.... The diagram has it shown in what appears to be under the steering wheel, behind the dash? I have to take the dash out to put in a new speedo cable and change my gauge faces, so i plan on just disconnecting the PS comp then to eliminate that awful beep sound. Its like when someone flatlines on tv, the lil machine just throws out a long beep and all the doctors look sad.... Except theres no fade to another scene, just the continual beep.

I overlooked it and missed it in the Haynes and FSM. I took a snap shot of the page NI_Racing referenced in the Haynes manual.

Its a bad picture but its the yellow color box in the picture.

Now that i feel like a total noob!!! Get in your car and turn the key on till that damn beeping stops. Then scootch down under the steering wheel in between the clutch pedal and the seat. Right above the clutch pedal you should see a metal box with a set of wires plugged into it. That magical box should be emitting your annoying beeping sound. Reach up and unplug the clip of wires. Tada the solution to the mysterious beeping sound has been solved.

I think this might have just solved my issue

you all really think the car is beeping buzzing for no reason? do you really think you've SOLVED a problem by unplugging your warning systems?

I beleve there talking about the solving the beeping powersteering. I'm gonna pull my PS asap. I hate doing spark plugs by brail. who needs PS.

why, its not hard and i have really big hands.

This goes to show ya..that IF you take the power steering out,you have to take out ALL of the components.(that means the Power steering ECU too..)

ah i see.. looks like i know what to do now when i swap my ps to manual rack.
