confused about bov on stock setup
Alright, I have stock TMIC. From what I've read the stock setup of the 7, there isn't a BOV but a Air bypass valve. Is this correct? If so, where is the air bypass valve located? UIM? I haven't read about BOVs in any FSM. If I'm completely wrong then I need to get a BOV. Anyone have pics of a aftermarket BOV on a TMIC setup? I just read that you have to put the BOV on the COLD side of the IC. But there is like 6" of piping on the cold side of the TMIC, so there really isn't anywhere to mount an aftermarket BOV because the stock piping is rubber. Somebody set me straight.

you need to buy either an adapter pipe which replaces the hotpipe right where it rises up from the turbo, or you can attache a rubber hose to the stock outlet location and attach it to the bov.
ill try to find a pic somehwere nvm i cant find it. try searching for engine bay pics from 2nd gens. |
Well, if I don't need a BOV, I'd rather not have one right now. I'm trying to stay stock as possible (trying to keep rice factor low). It's just with the piping I have, I don't see a place where a BOV would go, nor do I know how to connect the Air Bypass Valve up. Any pics of stock turbo setup that shows where vacuum lines are being ran?

It actually has a very useful purpose (search for "compressor surge"). Without it, you'll end up killing your turbo in a very short while. -Ted |
Also, beleive or not but Mazda knows what they are doing when they put together your car. They also know turbos well (they've been around for a 100 years). If its on the car right now, its probably doing something good. Unlike air pumps ;).
