cone filter question? Please Help!

I just installed a cone filter in my 87 na 7. The only thing that bothers me is that it is just sitting there and there is nothing holding it in place. I imagine when I go over any bumps it will be all over the place. Is this how everyone else has it installed? Or have you made some kind of brace? Please help!! Thanks George

Intake hasn't arrived yet, but when it does I'll let ya know :D

I made a brace for mine. Not a very good one and I don't have any pics, sorry. But I just used some parts that I picked up from the hardware store. Just some steel strips with holes in em and some wire to hold it. Could just bolt the strips onto the AFM or where ever and straight to the old mounting spots for the factory airbox. I couldn't because the store didn't have thin enough strips of metal.

i have a k&n and it came with a metal brace that you just screw into the fender. nice thing about it is that the holes were already there. and they are threaded.!! i love mazda

i just got a new k&n filter from my local store for 37 bucks. pretty dang good. i put it on the hks adapter thing i just bought too, and it was so long that it ended up resting on something. so no more zip ties for me:D

7Rebel 09-29-01 08:54 PM

What is the hks adapter and where did you get it?

Bigmike 09-30-01 02:20 AM

The HKS adapter is at www.k2rd.com it sells for like 25 bucks.

I just used wire to tie it to something close :D, nice quick fix. no ties needed.

i got my hks for $20:D you need it to put an intake on the end of the afm.

aahh I have a adapter plate. What I was hoping for was something that would secure the filter in its place so it wouldn't keep bouncing around. Hopefully I will be able to rig something together today.

Thanks

George

I used to use a cardboard to hold it in place, it is just too hot there that it started to melt

i used zip ties for about 6 months untill i got tired of looking at it so i bent up a little metal bracked outa some aluminum my dad had laying around.. works pretty good and took me about an hour total to construct it.

Ractice heat shield with HKS adapter

I got a brace for mine that I modified just a little by drilling 3 holes and grinding a curve in it from Lowe's. Its pretty sturdy and mounts to one of the factory airbox holes with the bolt. I should have pics of it tomorrow.
