Condensor Fan Harness Connector?
I have a 90 and 91 convertible that neither have a condensor fan. I bought a fan on e-bay and I was going to install it today on the 91, but I cant find the harness connector? I figure my cars had port installed a/c but wouldn't all cars be wired for the condensor fan with a harness connector? Thx.

I was long under the impression that all models got the fully optioned harness but my '90 GTU proved that false (no power window/lock or rear wiper/washer, for instance).
Convertibles are such odd ducks though, it's hard to say. Other than convenience however, there's nothing special about the factory wiring and certainly nothing you couldn't replicate. |
I guess I could hard wire with a switch if necessary but was hoping for just plug-n-play.

I have wanted to do this as well but never seen anyone go about do so. How much would it have helped the cooling when the A/C is running though?

FSM shows a yellow wire and black / yellow wire so I'll double-check to see if I can find it, but if not I'll have to punt today so I can finish my water pump and oil cooler lines.

Just use a relay to operate the fan. Piggyback onto the single wire to the A/C compressor. Attach to Relay terminal 86. Ground Relay terminal 85. Fused power to Relay terminal 30. Relay terminal 87 to positive fan lead. Negative fan lead to Ground. Done. Now your condenser fan operates only when the A/C compressor is running. :icon_tup: Edit: The only downside to this method vs. oem wiring is that there is no high temp operation. The oem system turns on the condenser fan when coolant temps reach 207*. This may not be a big deal, since the consensus on this board seems to be that coolant seals in the engine instantly vaporize if the coolant exceeds 182*F. :rolleyes: |
