Computer problems...

I just bought an 89 gtu. And after about a minute of driving, the computer goes into safe mode. the guy i bought it from said he had a bunch of sensors replaced, and that he thinks the fuel pump may have something to do with it. any ideas?

You would want to pull the error code and see what the problem is (rather than just replacing parts and praying you fix the right one).

I have a mirror site with a copy of the Factory Service Manuals.
You will find the diagnostic information in the "fuel & emissions" section.
The link is in my sig below.

yeah thats what i had planned on doing. I just wanted to know if anyone had a problem like this before, and what it turned out to be.

My mom's protege had this problem and to this day it hasn't been fixed. However, I suspect it to be the O2 sensor. If not that, maybe ur fuel cap isn't on tight enough? I know it sounds dumb but I think there is a pressure sensor there. If it is an intermittent problem, you can disconnect the battery and hold the brake down to clear the ECU's memory.

By the way, how do u pull diagnostic codes from an FC? Is there any way to do it without getting a diagnostic tool? Like using jumpers and an LED or something?

Doesn't a bad Oil Metering Pump cause it to go into safe mode in S5?

Fc3xguy Nov 11, 2003 11:48 PM

Hmm.. That just might be the problem. He said something about having a replacement oil metering pump. I wonder if he didnt put it in wrong, or something like that. i will definitely check that out.. Thanks!

Car will idle fine with bad MOP (until it self destructs). Just wont rev past 2000 rpm. Just had a problem with one and had to replace it.
