Compressor wheel hitting housing....

my clutch is severely glazzed and slips bad, i have to revv the car to 6000rpm to get it to move, but today i drove it to the mechanics to get a centerforce dual friction clutch installed.... i was driving a bit and from what my friend says, the noise is the compressor wheel hitting the housing, so the question i have is ( i need more then 1 opinion ) is this bad, how bad is it, how long does the turbo have left on it's life.... i believe it's running 13psi at the moment and all, if i missed any info i'll put it here asap....

thanx in advance....

why dont you pull the TID off and spin the turbo by hand...see if the wheel hits when you do this. see what the shaft play is like..in and out.....and sideways

^ yes, after you check that, if your compressor or turbine wheel is in fact contacting the housing then you will need rebuild it (requiring a new compressor wheel and turbine so it can get quite pricey), so i'd suggest you find a nice used one as its much more cost effective(even if you find one that needs to be rebuilt cheap as long as it doesn't have the same problem as yours)

problem is i only hear it once in a blue moon, and today because i struggled to get the car to the mechanics on the shitty clutch.... it comes and goes.... but is it something to worry about this year, because next year i will have a whole new turbo setup....

1) The turbo is no good NOW.

2) You're spitting nice, small metal shavings into the IC and eventually into the engine.

I would highly recommend to FIX IT NOW.

Find out if the mechanics were telling the truth first - a lot of them like to "bend you over" to try and get more money out of you.
