Compression Test

alright, heres the deal, i have 1 88 gxl that i know is screwed, but i bought a 87 base model with lots of extra parts, s5 taillights, mirrors, the 13b in it with 5 speed, and an EXTRA 13b with a 5speed, extra hood, extra hatch, 4 doors, polished EXTRA set of wheels (not the ones on the car), for $600 from some guy last night....now i have the engine in the 87 and a longblock out of the car...is there anyway to do a compression test to get the actual numbers on the one in the car & the one out of the car, or do i have to take it to a mazda dealership?.....and if so, how much does a simple compression test cost?

i believe its the leakdown test that can be done outside the car. or you could hook up a tranny and starter outside the car and crank it.
*no idea on price*

gotdatfiyah 07-12-03 07:05 PM

i dunno, but i got a hell of a deal i think

casio 07-12-03 07:06 PM

no doubt. but a good deal isn't a good deal until its put to use. otherwise its just shit in the garage.

the taillights, aero mirrors, and doors with manual windows (i give the finger to automatic windows)...you'll see the wheels on here for sell soon..ill get at least $200 out of those for the condition they're in

BTW, it does yet sound like a pretty good deal if you put all of that together into a car or something. :)

yup, hookin my 88 up, be a nice daily driver and stang eater, and the guy also gave me a roll cage, so we're thinkin about strippin the other chassis down, and droppin a big block chevy in it, takin it to the track

RoninAutoBoX 07-12-03 07:25 PM

A big block Chevy strapped into little more than 2000 lbs........that would be a Stang killer easily.

gotdatfiyah 07-12-03 07:40 PM

hell, he's talkin about buyin a hemi from 70's...that'd be beast

joelu 07-12-03 07:45 PM

get a remote starter and a battery and you can crank the engine over for a compression test.

gotdatfiyah 07-12-03 07:49 PM

ahhh, you can do that without a tranny?...and how much does one cost

Terrh 07-12-03 10:21 PM

it's pretty damn hard to test an engine out of a car unless you have a test rig built up. And that still doesn't tell you about coolant/oil seal problems.

About the best thing you can do is crank it and listen for chugs. Six even chugs = good motor

If any of the chugs are weaker than the rest, the motor is crap.

im assuming these 2 engines small blocks can just be swapped out with mine?
