Compression #s on 160k

I ran a compression check today on my S5 T2 to see if its really in need of a rebuild soon. I got 85s in the front and 80s in the rear. But then I just did a search and realized that I didnt have the throttle wide open. How much of differance could that make in my numbers? Are those numbers even bad?

Try again with WOT.

but just guessing at it based on those numbers it doesn't sound too bad yet. (but if you have the same numbers at WOT then you do need a rebuild).

was the car warm??

goodspeed 05-22-03 11:44 PM

not bad...

you got to factor in other issues, how hot the car was....how fast the cranking rpms were, how accurate a "simple" compression tester is.

But if its reading 3 even 85's on the front and sounds like close to that on the rear.....I say the engine has some llife left in it.

Thats hardly engine is on the verge of blowing up compression numbers, however Icemark is correct, you still might want to save for a rebuild

get the rebuild now. S5 TII engine parts arent the easiest to come by

stock engine with 160k miles?? dam I'm amazed it's still running. I'm sure it'll last longer if you treat it the same.

if it starts to get hard to start and flood. then I'd rebuilt it.

yeah. even if the apex seals seem good, whith those many miles, whose to say that they wont go bad tomorrow! And if you use it as a daily driver, it could blow at any second. The 13B engine really isnt that dependable if your giong twards the streetable track beast. its always good to have the rebuild money saved up. Rx7's seem to be a pretty common car around this area so what id to is buy a couple of junked NA/B13's and just strip them down and gather the better parts out and use them. i should know this due to may vast knowledge in the rotary world (or maybe just because you told me this the other night while we were working on cars!)
