compression

what exactly is the difference between turbo and non turbo rotors? what makes the compression different?

rico05 Jun 27, 2002 10:32 AM

Faces of the rotors. The TII has more of a depression than the N/A rotors. They weigh the same, and have the same dimensions, just the little "dip" on the rotor face is deeper on the TII.

UniqueTII Jun 27, 2002 10:33 AM

That's how Racing Beat lowers compression on rotors you send to them...they make the depression deeper.

They call it "Milling". How much do they mill out? You know Unique? I have always wondered....

UniqueTII Jun 27, 2002 10:43 AM

I can't find any info or pics of the process on their site...maybe Mazdatrix has something.

rico05 Jun 27, 2002 10:48 AM

Hmmmm. I have just always wondered how much they remove, where exactly they remove it from, and what they do it with. Guess I'll have to email them!

i think they had pic's in the printed catalog.

so if it had a deeper depression, wouldnt it make it a larger displacement?

rico05 Jun 27, 2002 12:49 PM

Um, not really. It just cahnages the compression. I assume it would change the displacement by a negligible amount.

AbecX Jun 27, 2002 12:55 PM

basically on the compression stroke, with less material there its not going to compress the air as much. Its just the opposite on a piston pusher. When you mill the heads you increase compression.

Manolis_D Jun 27, 2002 12:56 PM

It shouldn't change displacement at all... it's like putting a thicker head gasket on a piston motor, or boring out the heads (etc etc)

Thanks you saying what I couldn't put into words. I am an engilsh major who can't formulate his thoughts into words!! Go figure!!!

I was about to start drawing diagrams ;)

oh ok understood :)

fastrotaries Jun 27, 2002 06:17 PM

I would like higher compression rotors for my Turbo. Not way higher just a tad. Better low end and quicker starting........I guess the only way would be to send in some high compression rotors and have them brought down.

NZConvertible Jun 27, 2002 06:34 PM

S5 Turbo rotors are 9.0:1, S4 NA rotors are 9.4:1 and S5 NA rotors are 9.7:1. Take your pick. :)
