Competiton

Hello,

I haven't really raced my rex yet but I'd just like to know what would be good competition. I have an '86 N/A and it's running nice and smooth ( a little afterburn but no biggie). I don't have too many mods, a motor from an '85 GSL-SE, no cats, and that's about it. How would I fair against a Civic SiR? what would be something good to race?

You have a 2nd gen with a 1st gen engine in it??

DevilMage 04-22-02 05:02 AM

GSL-SE actually has the 13B same as the second Gen.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think they did.

Ryde _Or_Die 04-22-02 07:48 AM

Your wrong :D It was a 13B but it was a 4 port instead of the 6 port. Consider yourself corrected ;)

What year SiR? I've kicked plenty of Civic ass in my 12a 85 GS. The newer Civics might end up giving you a decent run for your money, esp. if you don't have much experience racing. If you don't get the jump on the launch, you'll have a hard time winning. You'll also have a hard time from a roll, so if that's how it goes down, be sure that you're right at your powerband (~5500 is good) when you go. I raced a (i think) 98 Si a while back and won, but only by about three lengths (highschool ricer who thought he knew how to drive). If you just want to straight smoke someone, go cruisin and look for ricers with Hyundais or the like. Plenty of those around my way, the most amusing is this dumbass with a Geo Storm with a catback, funniest (and slowest) "modded" car i've ever seen. They don't really count as kills as far as i'm concerned, but they do wonders for the ego.

If the driving is identicle, I don't think you'd win.

Actually it's a little bit beafier. The 13B's in the '85 GSL-SE come with stock 3mm apex seals. They have a little less HP but you gain reliability. And only the 12A's had 4 ports all 13B's have 6 ports, I recently fixed the 6 ports on my car and now they work beautifully. The next plan is to grab the secondary injectors of a GSL-SE (650cc I think as apposed to the 450cc I have in there now)

And I think it's a mid 90's, the bodystyle just before they converted them into Ford Focus's. (Damn those things are ugly)

The GSL-SE's have 680cc injectors. There are actually 4 port 13Bs though(not including the TIIs):

Wrong!

84-85 was the intro of the 6 port 13B. They are a bit different from the 86 and up engines. But still 6 port, which is the matter at hand. :)

Edit- Its even on the page you posted. :)

A REAL Si-R has a B16 that does 160hp in a lighter hatchback platform.
It runs special suspension - you can call it the Civic version of the Integra Type-R.
(It's not a U.S.-spec Civic Si sedan.)
The Si-R will smoke any stock non-turbo FC.

Damn, any suggestions on some mods I can do to bring it up to par?

UniqueTII 04-23-02 06:16 PM

I have a suggestion...enjoy your car and let your hard-on for Hondas become a distant memory.

Felix is right. They are 6 port.

But they are also missing the Dynamic Surge Intake and about 15FT/lbs and have 11 less HP and get worse gas mileage than the 86-88 13B.

Which goes back to the "why?"

redstreak 04-23-02 08:32 PM

Well one really good reason I decided on the '85 engine was because the '86's are notorious (sp?) for blowing the rear housing by the exhaust port through a water jacket. And for the 3mm apex seals.

redstreak 04-23-02 08:34 PM

Oh one more small point, we drive these cars because we love em right? Well I love my rex and the first gen 13B's last longer than the other 13B's. I have seen first gen's with the original motor with 400k on em where the longest lasting seccond gen I have seen is my brothers with 220k and to tell you the truth I don't even know if that is the original motor.
