personally i dont know the point of it

ra ra rotory 08-08-03 08:38 PM

Its to keep the back of the honda down at high rates of speed. Is that an Oximoron?

13bpower 08-08-03 08:40 PM

The point is to look rediculous.

White_Seven 08-08-03 11:17 PM

No no no, it's for the 2+2's so that the back seat passengers have some sort of shade from the sun overhead! ;)

nissan91hatch 08-08-03 11:35 PM

it makes them fly! atleast thats the impression i get from the wings on a honda

i would guess that it is a sun shade as well.

you know, those fwd cars really need downforce on the rear tires to keep traction...

kitchen 08-09-03 12:02 AM

It makes the low pressure region behind the car HUGE so traffic can draft you, just like a race car.

1987RX7guy 08-09-03 12:09 AM

I can see it now. Soccer moms drafting behind you. lol!

Better than having them drift behind you ;)

FWD POZERS!!! What are these people thinking? I can't stand these Probes, Cavaliers, Civics, and Integras in town with huge aluminum wings!

Don't forget the Neon that could! Or the Geo! :)

White_Seven 08-09-03 12:52 AM

If FWD drivers had a clue as to what the wing is really meant for, do you think they'd realize the error in their ways and stick that para-sail sized wing on their hood instead? Then again if they did that, they could just turn around in the car, drive in reverse, and pretend they're RWD! :D

i have to say that the only 2 benifits would be to.....number one...supply some shade to rear passengers..but also i have recently found that the florida sun raped my subwoofer in my 300z hatch..the sun rotted my sub out so maybe it could shade your subs and not let the sun eat them like it did to me. other than that...maybe you could look cool and it could help you draft a civic..with a big farting muffler? or it could provide much needed downdraft at travelling speed so your rear hatch glass doesnt shatter when racing any front wheel drive family car with 4 doors and a big farting muffler...cuz downdraft could help cool it at speeds upwards of 45 miles an hour. im reaching here but i think its worth it...

That paragraph made about as much sense as Santagio (1987RX7Guy) when he posts. Congrat's, never thought I'd see the day someone matched him!

introVert 08-09-03 01:37 AM

I personally think that this more central location on the car applies downforce in such a way that the driver's sphincter muscle puckers less when a Seven driver shoots past him at a high rate of speed.

But that's just my theory. I could be wrong.

rotary>piston 08-09-03 01:39 AM

here's what those wings should be used for:
Those honda guys are getting 30+ mpg, so they should just get HUGE wings to produce a large draft area behind them. That way, cars that get bad gas mileage can just draft all the time and get better mileage.
Oh yeah, these civics would also need mudflaps behind the rear wheels so they don't shoot rocks up into nice cars.

CRXtoRX7 08-09-03 05:21 AM

I'm pretty sure they are used at high-speed conditions to get the car into a wheelie. When the back goes down, the front pops up! Their theory is that with the front end off the ground, it is like weight savings...so they can go even faster which lifts them off more....its a cycle. Come on guys, get with the new FWD wheelie technology!

Fingers 08-09-03 08:59 AM

You guys are all idiots. Everyone knows they're there for mid-day picnicks with your honda buddies. Where else would they sit?

I can't believe there are so many clueless people on this board :D

RoninAutoBoX 08-09-03 09:38 AM

I can't see the wing. I think that park bench there must have fallen on it and crushed it beneath.

Bio-Weapon 08-09-03 10:45 AM

i love the civic hatches with the huge wing on the top of the car. it always gives me a chuckle to see them. Especially when it has 2 of them, one at the very top, and then another rap around thing that looks like a shelf near the middle of the hatch. I was arguing with a tiburon guy who was talking about putting a huge aluminium wing on his car, and his reasoning was 'well my car is geared to do 175mph, so at those speeds, the back end might be shaking around and start to slide out' I was quick to point out that he had an automatic, and that it barely accelerates past 160km/h. That pretty much shut him up. Then he went on about supercharging his tiburon and at that point i stopped paying attention.

stevensimon 08-09-03 10:36 PM

i would have to give props to the guys that put the wings on their cars. they are just trying to even out the field. you know not evryone can run a low 17 with minor bolt ons. its like a handicap in golf.
