Comparing a rotary to a LS1 is like comparing apples to oranges. Giving an engine gobs of displacement without doing too much else is considered primitive to me. Then you start comparing chevy engine prices to Mazda engine prices. Anything that has to do with a small block chevy is incredibly cheap compared to other engine parts.
All I'm trying to say is that large V8s are NOT living up to their full potental. And as long as they just keep making them big they wont have to. |
you are right. apples & oranges.
You could attempt to make an even playing field by either comparing a 5.0 V8 vs. a 5.0 rotary, or a 5.0 V8 vs. 8-rotor rotary. No Comparison. Nuff said. |

Tell them that you guys will race as long as the revs never drop below 7k r.pm. for either of you... *evil grin*
|
Don't forget, 7K is redline for some of us. ;)
|
rotary engines do not have redlines! :)
|
Tell that to your fuel pump and e-shaft.
|
rotary engines do not have redlines! Thats funny. Just because you dont have valves and pistons to mess up doesnt mean you dont have a redline. After you go past that your oil and fuel systems cant keep up. |
And your e-shaft will start to flex, and (unless your engine is race clearanced), that'll cause some pretty severe engine damage.

Hey! Since when is a Ford, Chebby, or Dodge DOMESTIC in CANADA? :D
|
Dudes! The original question was does anyone have any good lines to use? He didn't ask is an LS-1 better or worse than a rotary. We can argue this all day long. The LS-1 is a great engine but so is the rotary. It depends on what you are trying to do.
My response is this: Ask those guys if they can pick up their engine by themselves and then say you can. I've picked mine up alone before although it is pretty damn heavy and it wasn't more than a few inches. Lets see someone pick up a V-8 at all. Don't even go into how certain Indy race V-8s only weigh 200 lbs. We aren't talking about them. F*cked Over Rebuilt Dodge Poor Old Ni&&er Thinks Its A Cadillac Can't think of any others. |

I laugh at the 'import' racers (ricers) in their Accords. Built right here in the good old USA.

The problem I've got with domestics is that they are so under tuned. The Chevy Z06 engine should be making HUGE amounts of HP. If US car makers made engines the way Japan does then a 5 lieter engine should be making 550 HP from the factory. The S2000, the highest HP/lieter car on the market, makes 110 HP/lieter. It's all about efficency.
IMO why have a 300 HP big block 5 lieter V8 when I can have a 2 lieter that makes 220 HP? There is only one word that I can use to describe the problem, unfortuantly it is in German. The word is "Geschmacksache." It means "it's a matter of taste" and a matter of taste is what it boils down to. |

In the 70's, Austin Healeys came from the factory with race cams, and made 240 hp/ 2 liter motor, and the RX-8 makes 192 hp/liter. Their motor isn't all that spectacular, considering a BRITISH sports car accomplished their power output in the 70's, not to mention the austin will make more torque. |
