cold weather=high idle, warm weather=low idle?

Hi in the morning when I start my car it idles at about 1400 RPM.
In the afternoon when I start it it only idles at like 300 RPM.
Anyone know what's up?

Thanks.

Im guessing something to do with the thermowax.

Your car is not idling at 300, that is 800. There are no marks for 0-500 RPM on the tach.

Yes, it is your thermowax that causes the higher idle. When the engine is cold, Mazda programmed the car to have a fast idle so that the cats would warm up faster so the RX7 could pass the cold-start emissions test. When you are starting the car in the morning, the engine is really cold, so it does this. When the engine is already warm, it does not need to have the fast idle.

see ya,
