cold start problems

hi guys the car is a jdm s4.

i recently did a tune up of the car and for whatever reason the car does not receive the proper amount of fuel to start. if i squirt starting fluid through the intake the car will start. if the car is already warm and i try to start it, it starts no problem. any suggestions as to what the problem might be? the spark plugs, fuel filter, fuel injectors, intake tubing were all replaced at the same time along with the water pump and install of an e fan.

did someone monkey around with the TPS?

19rxseven87 01-25-13 03:02 PM

tps was replaced with a new one prior to this problem.

Recheck the connection to the Water thermosensor.

im pretty sure its fine since my efan is tapped to that

well you did a bunch of work so you need to go over your basics again, and another time after that. Recheck the firing order, and try adjusting the TPS but turn that screw ever so slightly

sometimes shops and people unfamiliar with the engine turn the TPS screw thinking its the idle

you'd better explain that more.Pics if possible.
The Water Thermo SENSOR is on the back of the water pump and gives info to the Ecu.
The Water Thermo Switch is different animal all together.

who did the work on the car??

19rxseven87 01-25-13 09:18 PM

i did the work to the car, if it was firing order the car would misfire wouldn't it? the car runbs great when it starts . the tps was replaced a.while back before the tune up and but I'll try checking the tps again . ah i tapped the switch sorry, I'll check that too

I have purchased 4 "non running or poor running" rx7s that ran for many years once i started and sorted them out, on every car the firing order was wrong. Im not saying its the problem, what i am trying to get across is to double check all your work

Once it's started, does it idle on it's own? I'm thinking thermowax and/or BAC valve has been removed. Taking those off add about 75HP, so that's why people do things like that...

19rxseven87 01-26-13 11:36 PM

car idles on its own fine, but idle varies slightly from 500 to 700 rpms. rob: I appreciate your input and will make sure to double check my work.

to everyone: thanks for your advice guys! will try to work on the car tomorrow.

i checked the water thermo sensor and the green plug is connected (the one with the plug that looks the same as the fuel injector plug). how would i verify the condition of the water thermo sensor? I'm debating whether or not it's the wiring harness or the actual sensor...

Wondering how you tapped your e-fan wiring to the thermo sensor.any pictures?
That's probably your problem.

You take a voltage reading from the ECU. Pin 2I (Green/White wire). W/key to on the voltage at pin 2I should read 2 to 3 volts w/engine cold and about .5 volts w/engine fully warmed.

i took a radioshack tap to the water thermoswitch and when the sensor triggers it turns on the fan, its operated using a relay. I'll takea picture this weekend when i get a chance but I'll give it a shot again. iirc i took off the tap but it still had problems but I'll try again
