Cold Start

so when i first start up my 7for the day, and for about the first hour or 2 of driving, everytime i hit about 4 1/2, 5000 RPMs, my car hesitates. like its hitting a rev limiter. and it didnt start until my friend messed with my cold start screw. any idea how to fix it or whats going on?

im having that same issue. i searched and found that it could be a alot of different things. just search hesatation and you will find a ton of stuff about it.

Cold start screw? What cold start screw?

There isn't a cold start screw... so what did your "friend" adjust?

pynikal 03-09-08 11:33 AM

idle control screw probably. was it on top of the im??

hellisholds77 03-10-08 08:49 AM

i think, when you tighten it, the idle will start to brap. its not on top, but its in front to the right of the throttle and tps. but i read up, and found some thing about testing the tps with a dmm. so im gonna give that a try wednesday.

and also i found out that itll do it if i only give me car 10 minutes or less to warm up. i left it for about 20 one day and it was fine.

Sure that he didn't mess with the TPS adjustment?

hellisholds77 03-10-08 07:25 PM

well, i would think that, but today, i drove with out heat all day, and the car drove fine. the second i turned the defrost on, it started doing it again. pretty frustrating.

dmm wont be the best way to test that. the best way to read that would be a scope. dmm isnt fast enough to process the data, were as a scope you get "real-time" data and can see what is really going on.

hmm, gonna have to buy one. thanks though. but like i said this heater thing, how could turning on the heater do that? it doesnt make sense?

Bama420 03-10-08 10:11 PM

Sounds like TPS, but that heater thing throws me off. Hey Icemark, could it be electrical?

hellisholds77 03-11-08 06:34 PM

yea i dont get it. could it have something to do with the heater hose? or like bama said, an electrical problem?

Icemark 03-12-08 12:29 AM

Check and see if other things kick in the problem, such as the rear defrost or the air conditioning.

If it does the BAC is not kicking in,,, one of the problems with a radically mis adjusted TPS

hellisholds77 03-12-08 10:31 PM

i checked the tps today with a dmm. at idle it was -3.04. and it would increase when i slowly increased idol to about 40 ohms and my meter would say ouch. lol. but i took my a/c out and it doesnt happen with the rear defrost. i bet it would happen with the a/c though, so im judt gonna test and adjust the tps.

now the question is how to adjust it? and is - 3.04 good? i know the fsm says about 2.25. so i got kinda lost.

pynikal 03-13-08 07:40 AM

i would say that that is out of spec.

im kinda new to the rx7 thing but i have herd that the tps is one of the issues that these cars have. correct me if i am wrong.

the one i just bought he just replaced the tps on it and mine only has the 3800-4200 rpm hesitation. sont take what i have said to the bank but that is what i have herd.:)

hellisholds77 03-13-08 09:02 AM

yea, seems like its what im finding out. i just did an engine swap, i sent my tii out to get rebuild and ported and threw an n/a in from my parts car so i dont miss out on some meets. i had that hesitation from the start. cleaned and regrounded the engine grounds and fixed that. but i never used the heat till 2 weeks ago when it got cold again, i hate ny. but anyways. like i said, i drive with heat, it happens, with out, its normal.

so now that this is settled, how do i adjust the TPS. i need to find myself a haynes, and the fsm link doesnt work on my computer.
