Code 9
 

I am still getting a code 9... I figured the sensor was bad, but the new motor I got came with a water pump which has the sensor in it and I still get code 9...

Am I thinking of the right part or what else can I check?

Through a process of deduction I figured out you have a S5. Next time please tell us...

Did you clear the error code after installing the new sensor? Have you checked for continuity between the sensor and the ECU?

What pin in the ECU?

I had the car throwing code 9 with my other engine too, same wiring harness... but what are the chances both sensors are bad when they were both last known to be working? Unlikely.

Other than the harness and plug anything else I can check? (I haven't made these checks, I'm just saying to get ahead of myself)

Check them to see they are working. Again, see the FSM.

the codes are simple. they set when the circuit is open or short, and sometimes when the signal is out of range. i forget what code 9 is, but basically theres 3 things it could be
1. the sensor
2. the wiring
3. the ecu (this is rare)

so if you swapped sensors and the code is still there its time to look at #2 and 3

Damn man you guys should know I'm not a newbie, I've been I've swapped engines a few times and done a rebuild... know what the codes are and how they work.

My question was whether there was any other reason the sensor could throw that code, because from looking at it the wiring was in good condition... I WILL test it but I was asking in the mean time to save myself the trouble of some oddball thing that could make it malfunction.

Did you use the same harness when you installed the second engine?

the only real "oddball" thing it could be is if the ecu isnt getting power, cause the main relay is bad, or you've got some butchered wiring somewhere.

if its wired up like it should be there really are 3 things it could be
