Code 17???help!

Well it all started after i adjusted my tps to 1v warmed up with the key on egine off, but when i went for a drive everytime i come to about 2,000rpm or a little more the check engine light comes on then when i let off the throttle the check engine light goes off. I grounded the check connecter and the only thing in there is a code 17, I just replaced the 02 sensor about 4 months ago... i pulled the plugs they looked foulded so i went and bought 4 bran new ngk ones. i put the plugs in, cleared the codes and went for a drive the check engine light still comes on same time can anyone help me here???

could it be the omp??? before i put the new plugs in after 2,000 it did lung but it would rev over 3,000 which if it where the omp it wouldn't let you rev past 3k right?? but after i put the new plugs in no more surging but still code 17 at 2,000rpm?? Any ideas??

I had code 17. It puts the ECU into limp mode.

Turns out I had a bum wire in the harness that went to the O2 sensor.

Best thing to do is this. Find the wire on your ECU that comes from the O2 sensor. Snip it and splice a brand new wire then run this to your O2 sensor. There is a chance your stock wire in the harness has a break in it.

This wire ran to the o2 sensor thru a small hole i drilled in the fire wall.

Also another common problem would be the ground shield around the oxygen sensor wire. Usually if the wire were to break it would be grounded to the shield causing your car to go rich.

My code 17 was caused by a Bosch O2 sensor, I replaced it with an NGK and I haven't seen the code since. Just another thing for you to rule out.

ok..ill check wire going to ecm and get a new 02 sensor thanks guys, one last question why wouldn't the code just stay on all the time?? it seems only around 2,000 rpm light throttle it comes on then goes off, just wondering???

NGK 24036 Oxygen sensor fixed my Code 17. Sparkplugs.com has it for around $45 (Its not listed as an RX7 part-you have to type in the P/N 24036). You might try that.

THANKS guys, replaced o2 sensor and spark plugs and code hasn't come back on in two days...the spark plugs had around 15,000 miles on them they looked fouled so i think that could of been some of the problem but when i pulled the o2 sensor it was black with carbon so i went and bought another one and put it in, car runs great!!! NO CODES. OH
AND WANKEL 7 YOU ARE RIGHT WHENEVER THAT CODE FIRST SET IT DID GO INTO LIMP IN MODE MAN DOES THAT EVER SUCK. LOL.
