CODE 12...we have a code 12 in progress... all units please respond....

go ahead and call me stupid. I finally got the codes for the car and it get a 12.

Is this the infamouse TPS code?

Someone kind enough to walk me thru this. ....

this car is 2 weeks old to me know and I am slowly getting things straightened out on it.

car idles fine until I press in the clutch or turn on the headlights or AC ...jsut about anything electrical.

car starts but not like it should. I have to give it gas at first and coax it into firing up.

originally car would start right up and hit 3000 rpm and stay there a while.

if it budged at all it would surge up and down constantly till it was nearly impossible to drive even after it warmed up.

I got the idle down to around 1100 and it even idles somewhere around 800 after it sits a few minutes but once i hit the clutch it tries to bog down and nearly die.

I think that is all the details of the situation at the moment.

I have another TPS & BAC coming any day now.

Code 12 is coil with igniter (Trailing side), according to the FSM. Your trailing coils aren't working. Double check weather you have spark on your trailing plugs. TPS is code 06

Here's what the FSM says to look for with a code 12.
Check for poor connections, check for battery voltage at the (BW) terminal of coil with ignitor connector, check operation of coil w/ ignitor, check for terminal voltage from control unit, check continuity from control unit to coil.

Good luck.

I dont see a code "6"

if one of my coils was out wouldnt the car run like total dog poop? only half the plugs firing?

?????

car is a 90 GXL NA BTW....

now I am scratching my head.....wth.....

WonkoTheSane 03-03-05 07:06 PM

You'd be amazed at how well your engine can run with the trailing plugs not firing.. :) you can impress your friends and enemies by running your engine on only half the spark plugs :)

gentlejax2 03-03-05 07:11 PM

OK, well if thats the cause I am amazed cause the car runs really good considering it is all messed up.

I guess I will pull off the other coils on my other 90 and try them on this one.

I was going to do that anyhow.

so what is the link i posted about with the other info?

JamesBong 03-04-05 10:48 AM

Sorry, I have an S4, and was applying that knowlege to your problem. The codes are completely different for an S4. Please disregard the informational vomit I spewed earlier. I'm surprised nobody corrected me on this.

There's a bunch of infor on checking your TPS on here, but the first thing to do is clean all of the corosion off of the connector and see if it clears up the problem.

Sorry again for the misinformation.

^^^ Damn James bong you should be shot! Just kidding. Honest mistake, don't be so hard yourself.

According to Wonko in another thread, I disconnected those plugs(for another reason) an really didn't notice any difference in the running of the motor. HHMmmmm

gentlejax2 03-04-05 03:18 PM

well....now that I just got finished swapping out the coils..I come in and get on the puter at work and discover this little tidbit...

oh well, I really wanted to swap them out anyhow. now I can eliminate that from the list. I will put on a different TPS AND BAC tonight nad then check it.

thanks for the good intentions.
